Alle Fister is an entrepreneur at heart. She worked as Shopbop’s sole PR guru straight out of college and now runs Bollare, her own communications and style PR firm. Alle is a remarkable example of how hard work, passion, and determination can pay off. We chatted with Alle about starting her own business and how she stays inspired.
How did your start with Shopbop ultimately lead to establishing your own PR firm?
I started with Shopbop fresh out of college! I reached out to the brand via a ‘Customer Comments’ section on the site outlining why I would be a great member of the team and my thoughts on future executions to grow the brand. After receiving a call from Bob Lamey, one of the company founders, I packed up my convertible and moved from Malibu to Madison, WI.
At the time, Shopbop was a much smaller brand so I was responsible for everything from writing product descriptions, running photo shoots, sending out PR pitches, and appearing on television segments for the site. Efforts were well-received, and six years ago, Shopbop was acquired by Amazon. In this transition I founded my own consulting business, Bollare, with Shopbop as our first account!
Today we still manage PR for Shopbop and have developed quite the client roster with clients which includes: Blank Denim, Gilt Groupe, Isabel Lu, JULES SMITH, MinkPink, Only Hearts, Physique 57, Planet Blue, REEF, Ruthie Davis, Smythe, Tigerlily, and Yarnz.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
I love my entrepreneurial spirit that developed with my efforts at Shopbop and Bollare. Further infusing this spirit into the members of the Bollare team and working with our clients is such a rewarding feeling.
What have been the key secrets to your success?
My very smart grandfather says “the harder you work, the luckier you get.” I definitely found this to be true!
On your to-do list for your upcoming visit to New York?
I can’t wait to take in the view of the city from the newly expanded Chelsea High Line. After the sun sets, I’ll head over with friends to nearby tapas bar El Quinto Pino. The horchata and garbanzos fritos are both divine! I always look forward to visiting MoMA’s PS1 when I’m in the city. The offerings at the museum never fail to inspire, and their current Sergej Jensen exhibit is a must-see.
What are your daily digital reads and what is currently inspiring you?
Glitter Guide of course! On a daily basis I also like to check out: LA Times, New York Post, New York Times, People.com, WWD, and X17. Having an awareness of what’s going on from gossip to news is critical in my field.
