As the seasons change, we’re constantly intrigued and inspired to try the latest beauty and makeup trends. We chatted with our girlfriend and talented makeup artist, Priscilla Francine, on how to achieve this summer’s hottest looks. Priscilla gave us the breakdown on mastering radiant skin, playing up the smoky eye (we can’t wait to try a teal liner), and achieving the perfect bold lip (a Glitter Girl favorite)!
Skin should be your first priority — cleanse, exfoliate, correct, and prevent! No matter how busy or tired you are, make time to take care of your skin. You are important! Face makeup should always blend into your neck; medium coverage is your best option, and having a glow is essential. Your face is not flat, so try to avoid a perfectly matte finish. I adore the illusion a liquid highlighter adds to the cheeks and forehead, and Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer is a must for perfectly radiant skin.
Bronze and Teal Eyes:
Everyone will agree that the most commonly-used eye shadow colors are neutrals and browns. When everyday combinations get routine and boring, try kicking it up a notch with glistening bronze eye shadows. You can still stay in your safe zone while changing your entire look! Color on the eyes can be confusing. Where does this one go? How should I blend it? What brush should I use? Simplify integrating color and only apply to the bottom lash line. I recommend MAC’s Electric Eel. Teal is so appropriate for the summertime.
Color-blocking is the hottest trend right now in the fashion industry, and while it’s fun for clothing, it may be intimidating to translate into makeup. Don’t get me wrong — I thrive on color, and I’m constantly amazed at how new hues are created year after year. However, using too much color can look overdone. Choose one area on the face as your statement; the rest should remain subdued. If you shy away from bright blushes or shadows, a BOLD lip is your answer!
Embrace the bright pinks and vibrant oranges, and wear them with confidence this season. Choose a lipstick with a lasting pigment; try Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ Lipsticks in Orange Shiver or Rose Culte. If you don’t want to splurge on a new lip color you’re uncertain of, try combining what you have at home to create a unique look: outline with a hot pink lip liner, dab lightly with a red lipstick, and blend with a coral gloss to have my look you see above.
