Not Your Average Book Club

Book club GG 2

The best book clubs are the ones that aren’t so, well, by the book! So you’ve found an awesome group of gals who steer clear of Jane Eyre? Perfecto. Now it’s time to add some serious sparkle. Caitlin recently hosted Taylor, Erin, Meg, and Natalie at her San Francisco apartment for a book bash in true Glitter Girl style. There’s nothing like stimulating conversation paired with Blood Orange Bellinis, Margaret Elizabeth baubles, and pastel cake pops!

Here are the recipes and DIYs to ensure a soiree filled with chit chat, cocktails, and — of course — a healthy helping of shimmer.

Blood Orange Bellini
1 (750 ml) bottle Prosecco
1 quart blood orange juice

Chill the Prosecco on ice for about 30 minutes. Once chilled, open the Prosecco and let it stand at room temperature for a few minutes. Rub the rims of the glasses with the inside of an orange, and then dip the rims in edible glitter. Pour approximately 2 ounces of blood orange juice into each flute. Fill to within 1/2-inch of the top of the glass with Prosecco and serve.

The DIY Garland
Tissue paper in multiple colors
Thin ribbon

Step 1: Pick out the colors of tissue paper you wish to use {we used gold, pink, teal, peach, and silver}.
Step 2: Take tissue paper from package and leave folded. Cut different width strips perpendicular to the folds. Continue with all the colors of tissue paper.
Step 3: Unroll the ribbon and lay it on the floor. Then fold the tissue strips in half and lay them on the ribbon hanging down from the ribbon.
Step 4: Tape the tissue strips to ribbon to secure. Now party it up!

  • HollyG

Can you post instructions for the bookmarks? Also, what did Caitlin use on the table? Are those ribbons or masking tape?

    • glitterguide

I will have to ask Caitlin and Erin. Thanks! I think they are ribbons.

      • mimi

I would love to know how you made those bookmarks!! so cool!

        • glitterguide

We’re working on adding them! Thanks!

    • Caitlin

Holly – so glad you love it! Erin did the made the invitations + bookmarks and we’ll hopefully get those instructions up soon. As for the table, it’s ribbon that we picked up at Michaels and the fabric store. I just alternated colors and taped them to the bottom of the table.

  • andie

    “your invited”

It’s pretty sad that a BOOK CLUB can’t use your and you’re correctly.

  • Kait

So freaking in love with this. Butttt as a stickler for spelling, I just really have to ask if you’re aware the first card should say you’re invited not “your”?

    • glitterguide

We actually saw this later on. The girl who made them did it by mistake and then the photographer shoots on film. We could have left it out but we didn’t.

  • Anna Jane

oh, i love love love this! gorgeous party and i loved that book.

  • glitterguide

We did find it sad too. Things like that happen. We took it out and told the girl! 8 girls missed it. Thanks!
