What fashion websites and magazines do you read for inspiration and news?
The list of blogs that I read is never-ending and always expanding, but includes a number of personal style, décor, and DIY blogs. I also subscribe to a number of daily fashion sites, including Refinery29, WhoWhatWear, Business of Fashion, WWD and, of course, The Glitter Guide! I’m constantly online, which is where a lot of my inspiration comes from. It’s hard to keep up sometimes, but I still try to read the usual fashion magazines, especially the Canadian versions. Lula Magazine is a favorite for its beautiful styling photography and whimsical aesthetic. And recently, I’ve been addicted to Pinterest, as it’s such a great place to gather visual inspiration.

What advice can you offer to those interested in launching their own store?
Do your research, and surround yourself with motivating people that can mentor and support you throughout the process. One of my smartest decisions was putting the time and effort into a business plan prior to starting the business. I constantly revisit it — I think I’m on version 14 at this point! It’s so important to know the industry you’re entering. Passion is essential! Realize that being an entrepreneur is not easy. It’s a lot of hard work and extremely time-consuming, but it’s also one of the most rewarding endeavors.

How do you add sparkle to your life?
It’s important for me to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and surround myself with inspiring people and pretty details. Quite literally, I add sparkle to my life and share it with my customers through Bicyclette by adorning the shop with glittery hangers, vintage details, and sparkly DIY accents. It’s an always-evolving project that has become an extension of myself.
