If you’ve been thinking about experimenting with eyeshadows beyond basic neutrals but don’t want to go too crazy, we’ve got just the trend for you. It’s mint! First seen in the spring on the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2011 runway, this hue brightens the eye area and draws attention (without being overly dramatic). The trick is to find a shade that isn’t loaded with heavy pigments. This way, you can continue building color until you’ve reached your desired shade. Start by lightly dusting it on. If you still want to mellow out the shade, try layering it over a light taupe or beige shadow. Two of our favorites: Stila’s Cha Cha (a velvety seafoam) and YSL’s new Garden of Eden palette, which includes a much paler shamrock shade with a slight hint of shimmer.
