Catherine, the delightful owner of adorable boutique, Hallelu, gave us a tour of her chic seaside pad. Earth tones and distressed woodwork generate a relaxed, outdoorsy vibe effortlessly reminiscent of the seashore. Creamy white walls and mismatched accessories further contribute to an unmistakable surf shop aesthetic. Modernized with sleek touches and funky accents (think: chevron pillows, paper lanterns, and pink stairs), Catherine’s beachy abode has a charming character all its own!

What inspired you to open your own boutique?
I come from a long line of entrepreneurs. My great grandmother opened a hotel all on her own, my grandfather started a laundry business at 14, my dad started a furniture business and so on. So I guess you could say it is in my blood. But I discovered my love of fashion after working as a buyer in San Diego. It was the first time I loved my job so much that I couldn’t wait to go to work everyday!

How would you describe your personal style?
Fun, girly, colorful, laid back. I definitely don’t take myself too seriously so my style changes daily. I get dressed based on my mood. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.
Do your home and personal style closely resemble each other?
Yes. Some people call me Pinky, so I think the pink stairs say it all. My husband is a surfboard shaper so there is a fun mix of surfing and fashion throughout. But my style is definitely more vintage while his is more modern so we have had to get creative with mixing our styles.
