Hi, Camille from Camille Styles here! Popcorn, milk duds, and a classic film on the big screen…is there any better way to spend a cozy fall night with friends? I think not, which is why I recently decided to invite friends to an ’80s redux screening of The Goonies on my back patio! We turned the space into a total lounge — pulling the shag rug out of my office, covering the furniture with loads of cushy pillows, and using old wooden crates borrowed from Loot Vintage Rental for extra seating and makeshift tables.
My friend Andrea of Bake Sale whipped up a decadent selection of movie snacks with a modern twist: malted milkshake “shots,” popcorn-topped macarons, and the most luscious orange dreamsicle tart. Of course, no movie night is complete without popcorn, and our gourmet popcorn bar was the hit of the party! (Find out how we set up the bar, plus get the recipes for Moroccan-Spiced, Sea Salt Rosemary, and Caramel Popcorn here.)
To make sure our movie selection was a total crowd-pleaser, we passed out ballots listing five fun choices and then screened the trailers for each one before casting our votes. Once we had our winner, (Goonies it is!), the movie was up on the big screen in no time flat. The entire night was an unforgettable way to celebrate fall with friends, and I can’t wait to make it an annual tradition. (Though next time, I might request that everyone come wearing pajamas!)
Andrea of Bake Sale puts a playful spin on french macarons by topping them with crunchy bits of popcorn.
We served mini malted milkshakes in shot glasses; cute striped straws incorporated our red & white motif. S’mores cookies put a whimsical spin on a childhood favorite (get the recipe here!).
A popcorn bar featuring a variety of flavors, from classic to exotic, is guaranteed to be the hit of the party. Recreate your own with these recipes for Rosemary & Sea Salt, Ras al Hanout, and Classic Caramel flavored popcorns (here). Let guests scoop up the mix of their choice in old-fashioned movie theater popcorn buckets. I found mine in the “dollar” aisle at Target!
Andrea whipped up a delectable homemade version of Hostess Cupcakes, but if you’re short on time, pick up the real thing, remove the wrappers, and line them up on a modern tray. Trust me: your guests won’t complain!
I transformed my back patio into a lounge-y living space by pulling the shag rug out of my office and tossing around tons of throw pillows & cushy blankets. Ranunculus and crespedia are playfully arranged in old-fashioned soda bottles and propped up on vintage crates (standing in as side tables).
Soft vintage quilts are tucked into wooden crates, ready for guests to snuggle up in as the temperatures begin to fall.

I rented a projector and big screen for the occasion, but in a pinch, a big white sheet (or even a blank wall) works great as a makeshift movie screen. Throw in retro snacks, great friends, and a favorite flick all in the comfort of your own home, and you’ve got serious movie night perfection.
