“Some of our favorite books: Vanity Fair, The Count of Monte Cristo, One Line a Day Diary.”
What inspires your vision for a room, and how do you turn that vision into a reality?
I love, love, LOVE Pinterest! Home magazines just aren’t enough after you’ve become addicted to Pinterest! It’s so great to type in exactly what you’re looking for and have hundreds of photos pop up with more than enough examples and ideas!
I do, however, find myself hitting a wall sometimes! As amazing as Pinterest is, it can be overwhelming and deceiving! It’s not everyday you can spend a ton of money on a lamp! I mostly pull ideas from the photos that I fall in love with. Then I’ll call up my interior designer Stephanie Jean and we’ll hunt down what I need to create the look I’ve been envisioning. It’s definitely a process that takes time. One room can take months to finish!
“If I could wear a pretty dress every day, I would. I try to wear a dress every time my hubby and I go out on our date night. It makes the date that much more flirty and special.”
Where are your favorite spots to shop for your home in Canada?
My first stop for inspiration is The Cross Design in Yale Town, Vancouver. It is very pretty in there — mostly girlishness and sparkle a mile away! (Or should I say, ‘kilometer,’ since we’re talking Canada here…) The design team is always willing to help bring your visions to life, making any room ahh-mazing! It’s hard to walk out of there without buying a Voluspa candle or coffee-table book! ‘The Cross” is Pinterest in a store setting — seriously, everything in there is gorgeous!
But bargain shopping is also a huge part of decorating, simply because of how fast things add up when decorating a room! My go-to store for great deals is Home Sense, plus a little bit of IKEA here and there. I also love Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Urban Barn, and Chintz and Company. OH…and Craig’s List.
“This room is where we spend most of our time. The beautiful patio is closed during fall, winter, and early spring, thanks to our Vancouver rain! Because we’re all about comfortable living, my husband wanted a huge sectional couch and I wanted lots of pillows! And that’s exactly what we got. The coffee table, from World Market, brought the rustic edge that my husband wanted in our home design. My girly side finished it off with the zebra hyde, white bar, Moroccan pouff, and more pillows, of course!”
“One of my greatest weaknesses is shoes. I love how you can dress up a simple pair of jeans and a white blouse with a great pair of heals. One of my favorite pairs is these leopard Stuart Weitzman pumps that I picked up in New York.”
“Because our place isn’t very big, I couldn’t manage to fit in a gorgeous full bar! This little one is perfect for now! It holds the neccessities and adds a little pop of color to the room.” Glassware: Tiffany & Co, Deer & Moose Shot Glasses: Z Gallerie, Matches: The Cross Design, Paper Straws: Dime Store Buddy.
“My favorite part of the day is knowing that I got everything done, that the place is clean and tidy, and that I get to enjoy a little ‘me’ time. A cup or coffee or tea makes it that much better!” Wearing: BB Dakota Pants; Zara sweater.
