Hair Envy: Ashley Olsen’s Waves

When it comes to messy, beachy, summer waves, no one does it better than Ashley Olsen. We love how her hair always looks effortless and cool — like she just rolled out of bed (and yet looks fabulous!). We also love that she embraces her natural fizz. If you already have wavy hair than this look is fairly easy to achieve. If you don’t, you may need help from a curling iron and hair spray. Here are a few tips to achieve Ashley’s tousled tresses:

1. Do not brush your hair after you shower. This will take out any natural curl you have. Instead, pat dry hair with a towel and then allow your hair to air dry.

2. When hair is still damp, use curl enhancing products. If you hair is stick straight, apply a mousse (Dove Volumnizing Mousse) and a wave enhancing spray (Fekkai Coif Wave Spray). If your hair is naturally wavy, you can use the wave spray and/or a surf spray (Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray). Scrunch hair lightly to create texture.

3. If your hair is already wavy then you might be able to finish with steps 1 & 2. Twist your fingers around your hair and give it a bunch of texture and embrace your fizz. If you need a little more help or prefer to have more defined smooth waves, use a thin curling iron (Hot Tools 1/2″ Spring Iron) and wrap a small section of hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Hold the curling iron upside down and twist your hair around the curling iron (do not clamp). Hold it with your fingertips for 10-15 seconds and then release. Spritz a light amount of hairspray and run your fingers through the hair when completely finished to loosen the curls slightly.

4. This style looks great the day after, too. Don’t wash your hair and just add a dry shampoo (Ojon Rub-Out Cleansing Powder) for a super messy undone look.

AO is my idol! Thanks so much for featuring her and those fabulous tresses. From Jr. High through High School and beyond I always brought my hair stylist Olsen photos as inspiration ;)

I tried to achieve this look with a perm once… that didn’t work out so well… but I actually use my flat iron to curl my hair (well, when it was longer). And that worked out well… AND it stayed the day after too! No hair products involved. Just burnt, crispy hair :)

I love this look! My hair is very thick and naturally frizzy, so I like to add a bit of my favorite product on the ends mid-day to calm it down. I keep it in my bag at all times and it has lasted forever!
