Hello, Glitter Guide readers! I’m thrilled to be a new contributor to Glitter Guide. I’ll be sharing DIY projects, and I’ve got some fun ideas up my sleeve that I can’t wait to show you! Up first is an embellished t-shirt that might be just the item to freshen up your fall wardrobe. Earlier this year I saw a photo of Jessica Alba in an adorable trompe l’oeil necktie sweater at a Lucky Fabb event, and I immediately knew that I wanted to recreate it. My version simplifies the design to avoid hours of hand embroidery. The result? A simple tee which you can layer under your favorite blazer or wear alone for a lovely statement!
MATERIALS:
-gray t-shirt

1. Using the masking tape, mark out the area where you want the sequins to go. In this example, the sequins cover an area 1 1/4″ wide and are straight down the front of the shirt.
-
2. Begin laying out the sequin ribbon in rows, leaving a 1/2″ in length on each end. These ends will be tucked in later. Once you have a layout you’re happy with, adhere each row of sequin ribbon to the shirt by applying small dots of fabric glue every few inches. (When using the fabric glue, a little goes a long way.)
-
3. After gluing, gently press each row of sequin ribbon to ensure full contact with the fabric. Continue adding rows until the masked area is filled. Allow the fabric glue to dry.
-
4. While fabric glue is strong and meant to hold through wearing and washing of garments, you might want to reinforce the sequins by adding a few stitches on each row. Using a simple needle and thread, tack sew a few areas to keep the sequins in place.

That’s it! Style up your newly embellished t-shirt and wear it with confidence.
