Carrie Mitchell is the sort of person whose incredible talents have earned our admiration—and maybe just a little bit of envy. She boasts a successful international career in media that’s taken her to dream locales like Shanghai and Paris and included assignments for publications like Vogue and The New Yorker. With her remarkable PR skills, she’s also founded Stylegroove Media and landed a position as PR Director for the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Did we mention that we’re also blown away by her fabulous sense of style? We couldn’t wait to see this multi-talented PR maven’s holiday must-haves, and her eclectic mix of sophisticated and sparkly picks did not disappoint!
SONG: “Santa Baby.” The 1953 Eartha Kitt version…classic!
COOKIE: I love sugar, and have already started eating cookies for breakfast this month! Probably my mom’s chocolate caramel cookies.
DRINK: Hot apple cider, ice cold vodka martinis, or a glass of Pinot Noir—depending on the time & place.
PARTY DRESS: My hotel is on Rodeo Drive, so I’m tempted daily by incredible designers. When in doubt, my go-to for party dresses the past few seasons has been Rent-the-Runway, an indecisive fashionista’s best friend.
PARTY SHOES: I’m partial to peep toe pumps & pops of fun color! And, of course, anything that reminds me of the infamous Ruby Slippers, like these dazzling Christian Louboutin’s.
FAVORITE GIFT TO GIVE: I always send out hand-written cards during the holidays; I love the tradition. Also, personalized items are always a big hit—whether it’s commemorative typography posters from Going Underground or monogrammed gifts from C Wonder.
LIPSTICK COLOR: Red! Both Chanel’s ‘Gabrielle’ lipstick and Sephora’s red cream lip stain are musts this season.
HOSTESS TRICK: It’s always key to set the mood with great music and lighting (the more candles, the better!). I also like creating unique name place cards and giving a useful hostess gifts—such as a coffee/tea kit guests can use the next morning.
DÉCOR: Bright white lights & silver décor—I stay chic and elegant. (This way, you can add in splashes of color wherever you fancy!) I also have a collection of white ornaments from France (Angels & Birds) that I get excited to bring out every year.
MOVIE: Bill Murray’s “Scrooged,” “Home Alone,” “Love Actually,” and of course, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” My family and I still watch them every year; we’re big movie fans.
WAY TO SPARKLE: Wear your biggest smile…it’s the Holidays! Also, a bevy of sparkling bangles & a fun cocktail ring never hurt anyone—my favorites come from Marcia Moran.
