The holiday season is the perfect time to catch up with old friends, have a drink, and make a little toast. To give you a bit of festive inspiration, we sent our intern Kate to Upcider, one of her favorite San Francisco bars, to chat with an old friend and test out a few of the bar’s mouth-watering ciders. Cider has a seasonal cheer surpassed only by eggnog, and we think the warm, intimate, and very hip atmosphere at Upcider make it the perfect spot to pop in and have a fabulous evening during the most wonderful time of the year!

Upcider specializes in hard cider of every variety. The selection includes nearly one hundred different ciders, varying from super-sweet, berry-infused bottles to crisper, ultra-dry, and difficult to find French and English brews. The vast collection of choices makes Upcider an ideal watering hole for anyone with a minor cider obsession like Kate, but we think it’s also a great spot for those trying to figure out exactly what they want out of their beverage!

  • Some good laughs are sure to ensue when mixing holiday spirit and yummy drinks!

  • Upcider boasts over ninety different bottles of cider to choose from, some coming from farms just down the road and others all the way from France and England.

  • Champagne flutes of sparkling, crimson Apple Sauced Raspberry cider are perfectly festive (and locally sourced!).

  • Our intern’s cocktail ring perfectly matches the hue of this dry Basque cider. Those expecting a sugary beverage when sipping a glass of cider may be surprised by its sour flavor, but it’s Kate’s favorite!

  • Aside from close to one hundred bottles of cider, Upcider also has a small selection of craft beers and an amazing menu of upscale bar snacks.

  • Turkish native and Upcider co-owner Omer Cengiz saw a gaping hole in the U.S. pub environment: namely, the utter lack of cider houses. He and Ozzie Gundogdu opened Upcider in August, and the gastropub is now part of a tiny group of U.S. bars specializing in cider.

  • Atmospheric lighting, plenty of wood panels, and floor-to-ceiling windows give Upcider an intoxicatingly moody feel.

Yum this looks great – I live in the South Bay and we are planning to spend a lot of the break in SF proper and we will be sure to check out UpCider now!
