Here’s a question we’ve all probably asked at one point or another: “Should I wear bangs?” Whether you’re thinking about full-on fringe or subtle side swept bangs, figuring out what best fits your face shape is key. Here, we’ve rounded up four common face shapes and the best fringes that fit them.

The Style: Side Swept Bangs
What face shape it works best for: Round
Why it works: If you have a forehead that’s the same width of the lower part of your face, you want to elongate your face and give the illusion that it’s more oval with side swept bangs.
The Style: Fringe
What face shape it works best for: Oblong and oval
Why it works: Consider yourself very lucky if you have an oval face shape. This shape is the most balanced, so any style of bangs would look chic. If you have a slightly longer face shape, full on fringe with some framing will help give balance to oblong faces.
The Style: Chin Length Bangs
What face shape it works best for: Heart
Why it works: If you have a narrow chin and a wider forehead, opt for long side swept bangs that rest just below the chin.
The Style: Blunt Bangs
What face shape it works best for: Square
Why it works: If you have an angular jawbone and hairline, you’ll want to elongate the face with blunt bangs — just make sure the bangs are not cut too far towards the outer edge of the eyes.
