Beauty Trend Report: Spring Braids

One hair trend we can’t get enough of this spring is braids — from long fish-tails to braided crowns, embellished or simple, these looks will easily allow you to mix up your typical hair routine. Try adding crystals or hair clips to a messy braided updo for an added ounce of glam. We love the relaxed beachy look of a long fishtail braid and the romantic feel of a simple braid around your crown with loose waves. While some of these styles are more intricate than others, we have a few simple tips for styling your hair in braids.

1. Braids hold the best when starting with dirty hair – either skip a wash or apply a dry shampoo or texturizing spray before you start, we like Oscar Blandi’s Texture & Volume Spray ($25).

2. Use clips to pull back and separate your hair into sections when braiding, this makes it a lot easier!

3. Handling your hair and pulling it tightly can leave you with flyaways, so after you’re done braiding add a little bit of shine spray to your braids and gently rub it in for added shine. Organix Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shine Finish Spray ($8.49)

4. Don’t be afraid to let your hair ties show! We especially love the look of a braided pony using thick elastics in bright colors. Goody Hair Elastics ($4.29)

I love a braid! Such a chic way to keep your hair contained. It’s definitely a summer favorite for me!
