How To Throw A Vintage-Inspired Cocktail Party

From the new season of “Mad Men” gracing our TV screens to all the season’s flutter over Luhrmann’s “Gatsby” remake, retro doesn’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon! To our delight, we recently had the opportunity to take a peek into the launch party for Candy Shop Vintage‘s new line of vintage-inspired jewelry (made right here in the USA!). To celebrate her new line, designer Deirdre Zahl teamed up with our Editorial Director Caitlin for a night of cocktails, baubles and all things “oldie but goodie.” Read on for some inspirational pictures from the party—as well as tips for throwing a retro party of your own!

  • It all starts with an invite! Deirdre recommends keeping it “retro” and opt for printed invites to send to your guests. “Think about using muted colors, whimsical illustrations and retro inspired fonts.” Don’t forget to ask your guests to RSVP + set the dress code!

  • A bunch of affordable balloons in a bright color tied to a vintage figurine let guests know where the party is!

  • Keep the décor simple: fresh flowers, vintage figurines and sparkly accents will do the trick!

  • Let your guests play bartender! Set up all the ingredients needed to make a few signature retro cocktails (here’s a great round up of recipes). Print out recipe cards to display—and then to give your guests when the party’s over!

  • Vintage glassware and serving pieces make all the difference! Scour your local thrift stores for great deals, or take a peek at Cin Cin Vintage or eBay for an easier route.

  • Encourage your guests to dress in vintage-inspired outfits!

  • Don’t be afraid to mix and match! Vintage pitchers in varying sizes, champagne coupes and pretty trays will all give your party an effortless retro feel.

  • What’s better than vintage barware + jewels, cocktails and sweets?

  • For a large-scale party, an old-school photo booth will be a huge hit with guests. Not to mention, they’ll have a great memory to take home with them!
