Get The Look: Fall Braids

Braids ruled the Fall 2013 runways in a major way. At Christian Siriano’s Fall ’13 presentation models strutted the catwalk with gritty fishtail braids, while sleek and conservative side braids with a leather strap headband were the flavor at Valentino’s show, and un-done, textured, half-up half-down rosettes went center stage at Rodarte. While you’re already adding booties and vampy lips into your autumn styles, finish the full fall look with a fresh take on pretty plaits!

  • Rodarte’s Rocker Rosette

    1. Starting with damp hair, add John Frieda Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse  to add texture to the hair, then blow dry with your fingers.

    2. Use a Hot Tools Curling Iron to add some bend into the hair, setting with a mist of L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray.

    3. Brush out the waves to create volume and even more texture – smooth and polished isn’t the look we’re going for here! Grab a section of hair from each side of the front, and braid, connecting at the back of the head. Wrap the ends of the braids into a rosette shape, and secure with bobby pins.

    4. Grab a section of hair directly below the rosette you’ve created, and braid this straight down to the ends of the hair, securing with an elastic.

    5. Finish the ‘do with a little DRYBAR 100 proof Treatment Oil, smoothing over random ends of the hair to keep the look undone, with a little polish.

  • Christian Siriano’s Russian Ballet Braid

    1. Working with day-old hair will yield the best results, but if hair is freshly washed add a spritz of Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray to the roots and throughout the hair to give the strands more grip.

    2. Create a crisp part with a tail comb from the forehead to the nape of the neck.  On each side, create a fishtail braid, starting just behind and just above the ears. Spray with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray to secure the style.

    3. Give the braids texture and pull them apart slightly, massaging them to give them grit and texture.

    4. Criss-cross the two braids just above the nape of the neck, tucking the ends in, and secure with bobby pins.

  • Valentino’s Shiny Side Braid

    1. To keep the hair sleek, add Aveda Confixor, a light hold liquid gel, to damp hair and blow dry straight.

    2. Once dry, massage Redken Diamond Oil  from ear to the ends of your locks for that extra smooth and shiny finish.

    3. Create a sharp center part, pull hair over to one side, and braid.

    4. Finish the look by laying a black headband or headwrap over the top of the hair, tucking behind the ears.
