Halloween is one of those holidays that, when it comes to home décor, can verge into tacky territory quicker than you can say “Trick or Treat.” So we’re always on the hunt for classy yet playful ways to celebrate. This easy tutorial for a DIY gold glitter skull fits our style to a “T,” and took only about 30 minutes to complete. Now we have plenty of extra time to focus on crafting the perfect costume and mixing up some delicious cocktail concoctions.

- 2 sheets of white cardstock
- Razor blade or Exacto knife
- Masking tape
- Skull print stencil (download the PDF here)
- Cutting board
- Craft glue
- Foam pouncer
- Gold glitter
Print the skull template onto a sheet of cardstock and, using the razor blade or knife, carefully cut out the stencil, including the eyes and nose. Bearing down on a cutting board will save your pretty tabletop surfaces from nicks.
With the stencil completely cut out, trim the edges and then tape it to the second sheet of cardstock. To stick the nose and eyes in place, roll small pieces of tape and attach to the backsides.
Using the foam pouncer, dab a thin and even layer of craft glue across the entire stencil, making sure to cover the entire piece of cardstock beneath. If the glue is a little thick, put a tablespoon of the glue into a glass dish and then add a teaspoon of water. Mix well.
Remove the stencil before the glue has a chance to dry and pour glitter across the entire surface. Shake to cover the stenciled area, and then dump the excess glitter onto scrap paper.
Allow the glue to dry for an hour, and then put the finished glitter skull print behind glass in your favorite frame. We love the Martha Stewart paper bats we used as an embellishment!BONUS: Download the “Ghouls Night Out” print we designed to finish off your mini gallery wall by clicking here!
