An Adult Advent Calendar

The holiday season is the perfect time to test out new traditions and add a new spin to traditions of years gone by. This year, we’re loving Lauren Saylor of A Fabulous Fete‘s adult-friendly twist on advent calendars! While advent calendars are traditionally geared toward children, Lauren is sharing some tips on creating a version that is more geared toward the adult set.

After a year and a half of being married, I feel like my husband and I are finally settling down from the newlywed madness and starting to focus on creating new memories and traditions. One holiday tradition that I’ve always loved, but never recreated in our home, is the advent calendar. Most available options are focused on entertaining the kiddo’s, which is probably why I never thought it was for us. But this year, we tried something different. We put our own spin on the advent calendar and made an adult friendly version! Boxes and bags were filled with notes for simple holiday activities like baking christmas cookies, cooking up a batch of mulled wine or taking a tour of decorated houses in our neighborhood, others included gift cards for simple date nights like grabbing a cup of our fave holiday coffee, and small gifts to continue our old traditions like a new ornament to add to our collection. With all of the chaos that the holidays bring, this is a perfect reminder to slow down and really enjoy each other and the real reason we love this time of year!
