  • Tell us about your business + how you got started.
I started my business in 2006 by dressing shop windows in retail stores in Baltimore as well as doing small interior design projects for friends and family. At the time, I was working for a large party rental company and when I left that job, I started doing events as well. The business has grown steadily in the areas of events, interiors and brand styling.

“My cream sofa definitely anchors the room and I am always switching out the pillows based on my mood. My dog Brooks is a dream and always matches my decor!”

  • Describe your design aesthetic.
I am a world traveler, and I think my home reflects my experiences abroad with photos from my trips and other items I have accumulated over the years. I also love art and nature as well. I want all the spaces I design, especially my own home, to be sophisticated, comfortable yet still very chic.

  • “This piece was commissioned for this room and Dani Wagner is a rock star. I asked her to blend the sunroom and dining room into one piece that would hang here above my mantel. I wanted it to be abstract and moody. She always over delivers and even added some gold beadwork to the piece. It’s all in the details.”

  • It’s obvious that you love art! Tell us about that — where you find it and any tips on starting an art collection or decorating with art in the home.
Again, I would say collect pieces that speak to you and inspire you. Gathering small pieces is a great way to begin a collection, and putting them together on a wall is a fun way to display them. When purchasing/collecting larger scale art and/or photography, think about how you want to have the room ‘feel’ and select pieces that evoke that emotion. Art is always the cherry on top of any room and often a focal point of the space.

  • What are some challenges you’ve had along the way in your design career and do you have advice for anyone just starting out?
I have had more challenges and failures than I have had successes, and that just comes with the territory. You have to be open to taking risks and realize there is a lesson in every experience. Find your own style and stay true to who you are. I would say trust your gut, and don’t be afraid to dream big. All things are possible with passion and self-discipline.

  • Who are some of your favorite designers?
I am a huge fan of Kelly Wearstler’s bold, trend setting aesthetic and yet I also really like Chris Barrett’s refined use of patterns and prints.

  • What are the pieces a young woman with her first home should splurge on?
I think this is different for everyone, but I would invest in soft seating (sofa/chairs, etc.) because those are the things you will use every day. Next, I would invest in great area rugs, as they will help define a space. From there the rest of the room will begin to come to life.

  • “I am a huge plant fan and fiddle leaf figs are my go-to for almost any sunny space. The brick walls here add so much character and this light is pretty spectacular in this space as well. The ikat chairs are one of my favorite purchases to date and remind me of my favorite pair of blue jeans. They really do work well in almost any space.”

  • Where are your favorite places to seek inspiration? Favorite websites?
I am a huge fan of mixing old and new pieces, so I have a number of vintage items (the brass lamp in my dining room for example) that I try to work into the spaces I design. Local consignment shops are a great place to find treasured pieces and I balance those with more streamlined options like West Elm, Anthropologie and ZGallery.

  • “This is one of my favorite rooms in the house and definitely a peaceful retreat. I wanted a soft mix of whites, creams and gray. The tent makes the space seem much larger than it is and the light is amazing in the morning.”

  • How long did it take you to decorate your place? You just moved, so we are so impressed with how lived in your beautiful home looks!
I moved into this condo in June of last year and did decorate it pretty quickly. I love the architecture, brick walls in the kitchen and sunroom, and the first thing I did before I moved in was paint each room. I started the project just like I do all of our interior projects at the studio with a storyboard and color palette. I moved my existing furniture in and the rest of the space just evolved organically.

  • “This piece was created by the talented K.M.Scotto. Kristen has painted many things for me over the years and this was her interpretation of the beach. I gave her the wall paint color as a starting point and told her I wanted something calm with touches of gold. I love waking up to this piece.”

  • You do a great job of layering textures, patterns and colors. Do you have any tips on how we can do this at home?
Live with what you love and don’t be afraid to mix things up. Try staying within a certain color palette and know that mixing patterns and textures is easier when you balance both small and larger repeat prints.

  • “I balanced the feminine with the masculine by adding some fur rugs with the colorful art by a new favorite artist Kerream Jones out of Atlanta. His use of color is amazing and he is so passionate about his craft. It is the perfect piece for a room full of fashion!”

  • “I added racks to the walls and have all my shoes and jewelry on display for easy accessibility. I like to see all my pretty things out in the open.”

  • How do you sparkle?
I love what I do and I think my work reflects my passion. I try to put positive energy out into the world and create beauty each and every day.
