Style At Home: Caitlin Moran Of Glitter Guide

We’ve taken you into the homes of so many incredibly stylish ladies through our Style at Home series, but today’s feature holds a special place in our hearts: a tour of our own Editorial Director’s impeccably chic abode. We adore Caitlin’s neutral color palette and array of eclectic touches. Her inherent knack for style translates perfectly throughout every room, and we’re so glad we got a peek!

  • Your Annapolis apartment was featured on GG before you moved. Tell us a bit about your new place and the process of starting on a clean slate!
I secretly love moving and the thought of re-decorating, so when we left our tiny, historic apartment for a light-filled home with a yard, I was so excited to have that much more space to decorate! I tend to take a long time to complete projects, so before we moved I worked hard to pick out paint colors and decorating ideas for each space—this way, we could get to work in our new place right away. I highly recommend doing this—it’s so motivating to have a decorating plan in place as you unpack your boxes.

  • “We finally upgraded from a tiny Ikea table to these nesting coffee tables—they’re so spacious and perfect for entertaining. In all honesty, we use them most nights as we eat dinner and watch the news!”

  • Describe your aesthetic when it comes to décor. Has it evolved at all since your last home?
Yes! Totally. Our last home had a ton of saturated color and lots of clutter. I kept looking longingly at online images of neutral spaces with accent colors and metallics. I knew I wanted our new light-filled space to be less colorful. Having a neutral backdrop (pale grey walls, grey couch, neutral rugs) lets me change out pillows and throws as the seasons change, which is fun.

  • What has been the most challenging aspect while styling your home?
The biggest decorating challenge in our rental house was by far the ugly carpet—but a close second was this home’s non-working fireplace. I’ve struggled with it from the get-go, but decided that hanging a white mirror and keeping the décor simple allows the focus to fall on other parts of the living room.

  • As Editorial Director of Glitter Guide, you are constantly exposed to inspiring products, images and ideas. How does this influence the decisions you make when decorating a space of your own?
It can be an inspiration overload for me at times. I tend to be really indecisive and take forever when it comes to making big purchases and decorating choices. Over the past year I’ve really learned what my personal style is, both in the home and my wardrobe. I’ve learned to try to let go of trends and the idea of ‘keeping up’ with everyone else in the blogosphere—to just be true to myself and my taste.

  • “I’ve become a total homebody over the past few years—it’s hard to imagine my old life in New York City. Most weekends I’d much rather fix cocktails at home then go out!”

  • Disco Ball

  • What room or spot are you most proud of?
I love how our living room has come together. This little reading nook is my favorite spot to totally unplug from all things work-related. I often spend time at night on my laptop on the couch—but this little spot is so cozy and totally stress-free. The entryway always makes me smile when I walk in the door!

Layla Grayce chair // Lulu + Georgia pouf // Target table + pillow // Lamps Plus lamp

  • Where can you be found shopping for décor?
I scour thrift stores almost weekly, as well as Target and HomeGoods—a lot of my favorite pieces are from both of these stores. Ikea is also another favorite, and I love all of the new DIY projects you can find online to customize big-box store purchases!

‘Audrey’ lamp from Lulu & Georgia // Vintage table + mirror // Target x-benches // “There’s No Place Like Home” print from Etsy // Pulp Home Starburst drawer pull

  • “I’m so glad I decided to get a white bar cart (thanks to Roxy’s encouragement) because I’m constantly changing up the décor and colors. My fiancé doesn’t understand my pleasure in doing this, but I think it’s so fun to create new looks in your home!”

Vintage glasses, tray, decanter // Crate & Barrel shaker // AERIN artichoke wine stopper // Gold playing cards

  • If money were no object, what household item(s) would you splurge on?
Oh boy—I can think of a lot of things! A new sectional couch, a beautiful headboard, vintage campaign-style nightstands, bentwood chairs for our dining room and a chandelier for the kitchen.

  • Jonathan Adler candle

  • Crate & Barrel wine cooler // HomeGoods tray

  • What makes your house a ‘home?’
For me, it’s artwork and vintage treasures I’ve collected over the years. Also: cozy throws (we have about ten) and fresh flowers always make a home seem like “me.”

Bel + Beau skirt // Forever21 tee // BaubleBar for Anthropologie necklace

  • “My fiancé Austin and I worked hard on this DIY headboard one night when I was determined to finally decorate our room. It’s the last room in our house I’ve worked on and it still has a ways to go.”

DIY headboard // Overstock pillows // Lamps Plus lamps // Target bedding + starburst mirror

  • Target vase

  • “I love the light in our guest room and often wish we had chosen it to be our bedroom! It was the first space I decorated, too.”

  • “My office still has a lot of decorating work to be done, but it’s functional for now. I want to paint the walls and invest in some new shelving and organizing systems—I have a lot of ‘stuff.'”

  • J.Crew sweater // Phillip Lim for Target skirt // Zara heels

  • Cin Cin Vintage x SSU print

  • Skechers shoes

  • “I just started fresh with my inspiration board in January—it felt so nice to start the year off on a clean slate!”

  • BaubleBar necklace

  • Shop by Monika mug // HomeGoods saucer

  • How do you sparkle?
In true Glitter Girl form, I love to add sparkle to my life daily—from giant statement necklaces to a swipe of red lipstick to a fresh manicure. I sparkle most, though, when I’m in sweatpants, cozied up on my couch with my dog Sullivan + fiancé!

“My desk is constantly a mess—I struggle to keep it clutter-free! I have lots of little dishes and trays to help.”
