  • Start by removing any old polish. Then file your nails into whatever shape you fancy.

  • Bathe your nails in a soothing cuticle oil, such as Deborah Lippmann’s Cuticle Oil ($20) for at least five minutes. Then carefully remove any jagged edges or unwanted skin with a nail clipper. We love the Sephora Collection Angled Cuticle Nipper ($18).

  • Next, give your hands a ‘spa-like’ experience by washing away any residue and applying a rich hand cream, such as Caudalíe’s Hand And Nail Cream ($15).

  • To ensure your nails are free of any oil before applying polish, use a nail polish remover wipe (or dip a Q-tip into remover) and quickly swipe it over each of your nail beds. We love Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes ($16 for 40 wipes).

  • To amp up your polish’s staying power, apply a base coat like JINsoon Power Coat ($18).

  • Time for the fun part! Apply your favorite polish to your freshly cleaned nails. We’re currently loving Formula X’s Eureka ($10.50), an electric pink shade from their super-chic summer 2014 collection.

  • Finish your gorgeous at-home mani with a protective top coat. If you’re looking for mega-shine, try out Tenoverten’s The Shield Top Coat ($18). If you prefer a matte finish, go for Illamasqua’s Matte Top Coat ($14).
