Today, our founder Taylor Sterling is giving us the party-planning lowdown on her daughter’s very first birthday celebration (hooray!). This delightfully playful bash—made possible by Pottery Barn Kids, Going Lovely and a host of other fabulous vendors—proved the perfect way to celebrate Elodie.
“Our latest party in collaboration with Pottery Barn Kids was extra close to my heart: my daughter’s first birthday party—and a celebration of everyone getting though a wonderful (and challenging) year together. The inspiration for Elodie’s party came from my love of Tim Walker’s whimsical photography (which also inspired me to start blogging in 2009!). The gals at Going Lovely helped me pull the magical, youthful elements from his photos and translate them into a fun party for kids. We had swans, unicorns, glitter and pretty pastel colors—all things that Elodie and I adore.
But planning this party was not without its challenges! For starters, Elodie’s birthday lands in the winter (not ideal for an outdoor party). We also had a lot of guests but not a lot of room. To transform my small space into a dreamy party area for adults and kids alike, we had to get really creative. We ended up turning our garage into an amazing playroom! The process wasn’t easy, but the end result was worth it. We also created a large backdrop in the living room to cover wall art and make it feel more like a venue. With the help of Going Lovely and Pottery Barn Kids, we were able to turn our home into a fabulous space for a truly memorable first birthday party. Read on for all the details!” — Taylor
