Inslee Fariss is loving her gig as an illustrator and, most recently, as a new wife and puppy mother! The talent behind Inslee By Design, Inslee creates beautiful watercolor fashion illustrations and other custom works out of her Spring Street studio in New York City. Since February is the month devoted to all things romantic, we asked Inslee to spill about all of the loves in her life.
How do you find romance in the everyday? Loving someone else requires loving yourself first. I take time out almost every day to take a step back from emails and work to go to yoga. It clears my head of all the clutter, and when I leave class, I invariably find myself thinking of ways to take care of the people I love instead of dwelling on unnecessary stresses of the day.
What has surprised you the most about marriage? Well, I’ve looked forward to being married practically since birth. I always knew I’d love being a “Mrs.” but wasn’t sure if my fiancé would prove to be as matrimonially enthusiastic as I was. So the most unexpected joy I’ve found in our marriage is how my husband truly does take pride in being married to me, too—how genuinely excited he seems to call me his wife, to wear his ring and to share our life together. I had no idea he’d be as excited as I am about all of this. Sigh …
Favorite treat: I’m not a big candy fan but I do love baking, so I plan on whipping up some Sweet Loren’s cookies for Valentine’s Day this year. Sweet Loren’s makes all-natural, ready-to-bake cookie dough with 100 percent whole grains. My personal favorite is the Chewy Oatmeal Cranberry, but I wouldn’t say no to Bold Espresso Chunk or Peanut Butter Chocolate, either.
