For days when there’s minimal time to apply makeup before running out the door, we usually elect a dose of mascara to brighten tired eyes and a swipe of lipstick to look more put-together. And what freshens up a pale winter complexion better than a pretty pop of color on the lips?! We sent out editor Natalie Borton to road-test several drugstore lipsticks and find out which ones are worth adding to your makeup bag. Below are her top three pink-hued picks!
The bold choice: Maybelline Creamy Matte Lip Color in ‘Lust for Blush:’ “Creamy, matte and super-pigmented, this lipstick delivers bold color for ‘blah’ days. When wearing this one, keep the rest of your face as bare as possible so your lips can steal the show!”
The subtle choice: Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in ‘Pinky Nude:’ “This color stick is easy to apply and has just the right amount of subtle color to freshen up pale lips. Though it’s matte when applied, you can easily top with gloss to change up the look. This one is definitely the most versatile of the ones I tested.”
The dewy choice: L’Oréal Colour Riche Lipcolour in ‘Peach Fuzz:’ “I think this was my favorite of all three. I found its peachy-pink hue most flattering with my complexion. I especially love the dewy finish, which isn’t quite shiny enough for me to deem glossy. This one also felt the most moisturizing.”
Is the lipstick in the photo one of the colors featured? It’s gorgeous!
Yes! It’s the Sonia Kashuk pinky nude one :)
Thank you so much for this post. I have had a hard time finding lipstick that looks good with my fair skin and red hair. I had heard about “lust for blush” before so after reading this got it today, and it is great! Thanks again and keep up the great content!
So great! That color is a fun one!
Is the middle color the one you posted on Instagram? i love that one!
I definitely want to try the pinky nude one!
It’s a good one, for sure!
