OK—we’re officially calling your bluff! If you haven’t gotten down to business with this year’s spring cleaning routine, now is the perfect time. We’re steadily preparing for entertaining season—Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Father’s Day are all right around the corner, and the last thing we want to do in the midst of party planning is worry about the stain or wrinkle status of our favorite sundress or table linens!
To ensure that this final push for spring cleaning takes up minimal space on your already packed to-do lists, we’ve partnered with Tide to share seven tips that will bring order to your next big laundry day. These simple tried-and-true methods are sure to make the whole process more efficient than ever.
Did you know that one in four Americans would rather do their taxes than all the laundry currently in their homes? And that nearly half don’t know that high-efficiency (HE) detergents actually don’t clean clothes by creating more suds with less water? But don’t worry—it’s easy to change your perspective and learn new ways to refresh your routine when you’re armed with the right knowledge and resources. Here’s how to get started!
1. Designate a ‘laundry day’
This could occur during the same time and day every week. If you can squeeze it in then, it will free up some of your precious weekend time! Pencil it in on your calendar and enter a reminder into your phone—and then hold yourself to it.
2. Enlist help!
Get your partner or children involved! Maybe this means having a young child sort socks or fold towels, or asking your partner be in charge of all the bedding and linens while you take care of all the clothing.
3. Pre-sort your laundry
You’d be surprised at the amount of time that this can save—everything will be ready to go directly into the wash, and it will be a cinch to sort and put away when dry. If you have kids, you can make this a fun routine! If you have a large family, you may want to invest in a central laundry sorter.
4. Be proactive
Pre-treat stains as soon as possible, always check all pockets and routinely check clothing labels for special instructions. You’ll save yourself time in the long run!
5. Don’t skimp on quality
When it comes to your soap, use a powerful laundry detergent such be sure to use an HE detergent that is designed to work in your HE washing machine, as is the new Tide® HE Turbo Clean™ liquid! A single capful in the quick wash cycle cleans just as well as six cups of competitor detergent in normal wash cycle, and it won’t carry over suds that can extend your rinsing time. You can’t compete with those figures, and your carefully chosen wardrobe and linens deserves the very best kind of care.
6. Reduce wrinkles
Lessen time spent ironing by removing your clothes from the dryer as soon as the cycle ends. Hang up all wrinkle-prone pieces immediately.
7. Fold right away!
Resist the temptation to leave your laundry sitting around in baskets for days. Don’t let the time you spent sorting, washing, drying and ironing go to waste!
