Beth Jones’s Bohemian Home Tour

You definitely have a knack for finding great thrift store gems, and for refurbishing things! Do you have a tried-and-true method for finding treasures among the junk? Tell us the story behind your best score!
My best treasure-hunting tip is to look often and in every place you can find. When I’m looking for something for the house, I will go to some of my favorite thrift stores every other day to see their new inventory. I will look at every thrift store I can find on Google Maps, not stopping until I’ve found what I’m looking for. I will also spend a lot of time on Craigslist when searching for furniture. If I’m not looking for one specific thing, I will just buy things that I love and then figure out where to make them work in my home.

My best score is hard to choose. I get so excited about most things I find—but I guess I might say the day I went to the Long Beach Antique Market right after we’d moved into our house. I was on the hunt for some chairs for the living room, and I was determined to find some. I was with a friend, and as we walked in I had described exactly what I was looking for. After hours of searching, I was discouraged to find nothing, until we walked to the very back of the market where a vendor was selling exactly what I had described. I was certain they were going to be out of my price range, but $200 for the pair was perfect. Score!
