Meet Sarah Gibson Tuttle, creative owner of Olive & June and self-proclaimed “mani/pedi obsessive”. This thoughtful, detail-oriented shop owner is a gal after our own hearts. The salon’s mission? To create a luxurious atmosphere built around the idea of a casual, yet sophisticated service—a place where clients can count on a tailored experience, not to mention an ace manicure or pedicure! Named after Sarah’s grandmother and great-grandmother, Olive & June has become a go-to Beverly Hills destination. With a string of glowing client recommendations and a mantra we totally stand by, we were thrilled to sit down with Sarah to chat about her experience building a beauty-based brand from the ground up.

When did Olive & June open? Tell us about the moment you came up with the idea for your shop, and a little about the name, too!
I came up with the idea for Olive & June on vacation with my now-husband. After being frustrated with the salon options in Los Angeles, I turned to him and said I was going to create a nail salon with all the things that I absolutely loved! Olive & June is named after my grandmother and great-grandmother, who are both amazingly powerful and strong women. We opened in August 2013.
What are the key elements of your brand that gives customers a “downright lovely” experience?
At Olive & June, we try to elevate the experience in every way. Your nail appointment should no longer feel like a chore, but a wonderful experience. We want to make things easy by offering online booking and keeping your preferences on file. We’ve also tried to think of all the extras, like tons of polish options and lots of magazines.
A large reason why your shop stands out is your attention to detail. How do you manage to keep it all straight and give each of your customers a truly tailored experience?
A lot of that experience truly comes from the heart. Every member of our team cares about our clients and is deeply passionate about their job.
What has been your favorite professional collaboration to date?
I can’t play favorites! I have truly felt lucky to work with amazing brands and manicurists in the past two years. One of the most amazing moments was when Deborah Lippmann sang at our one year anniversary party. Everyone knows about Deb’s amazing polishes (the glitters especially!) but not too many people on the West Coast know that she is a professional jazz singer. She’s beyond incredible.
What’s your favorite nail color and brand of polishes? Any new brands we should check out?
I love every brand we carry or else I wouldn’t carry it. In fact, I wish we could carry more! There are so many great brands and colors out there. I am so into nudes and neutrals right now—especially lavender grays!
What are your favorite places to shop in Beverly Hills? Favorite places to eat?
Since I’m pregnant, there is a lot more eating than shopping these days! I particularly love Chaumont Bakery & Café on South Beverly. The owners are from Paris and their croissants are perfection
What are the five beauty products you can’t live without?
Cuticle oil, kid’s toothpaste (they have the best flavors), Tata Harper Revitalizing Body Oil, Pursoma baths and Shani Darden’s amazing Retinol.
Where do you see yourself and Olive & June in five years?
We would love to continue growing the brand, both through locations and products! There are so many fun ideas swirling around in my head!
