Peeking into someone’s makeup arsenal is quite telling—each item inside says something interesting about her likes, dislikes and day-to-day lifestyle. Today’s “Beauty Bag Spill” feature shows us that Katzie Guy-Hamilton, director of food and beverage at Max Brenner International, is all about defined brows, bold lips and flawless-looking skin. Read on to see her intriguing must-haves!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ($21): Anastasia Soare is the mastermind behind perfect eyebrows—she has every tool you could ever need for expertly shaped, filled and maintained face-framers. My eyebrows are so important to me. I like to keep my look clean and natural with full, well-groomed brows. This pencil allows you to define the arches of your brows and then flawlessly blend the product using the end of the brush. (I use the taupe color to keep things looking light.) Tips: Highlight right under the arches of your brows, blending with your finger for even more definition. Focus on the ends of your brows—this is where the hairs are the sparsest, and likely where you have the most potential to create a uniform look.
Hormeta HormeLine Eye Contour Focus Gel: When it comes to medical skin care, Hormeta is no joke. If you’re planning to invest in eye creams or treatments, get educated before you purchase—the technology out there can truly prevent a premature trip to the surgeon. I use this gel (layered with Hormeta’s gel mask) three times a week. The microcapsules inside it are packed with vitamins A and E, which help to combat dark circles and fine lines. Tips: Pat—don’t rub—the delicate skin around your eyes. Apply this gel after your gym-and-shower routine, Monday through Wednesday. (I’m not a fan of sleeping with the gel on.)
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain ($36): My classic red—the only red I believe in. On my “glam days,” my minimalist approach to makeup definitely includes a swipe of this color across my lips. There is nothing more beautiful to me than a clean complexion, great brows and powerful red lips. This lipstick instantly changes the look and shape of my face. I think the highly pigmented blood-red shade is for everyone. Tip: I never line my lips before using this lipstick, but I always check my teeth, as I’m known to get caught with red smudges on my pearly whites.
Origins Pinch Your Cheeks Powder Blush in ‘Rose Dust’ ($23.50): A little bit of rosy color can bring a lot of life to your face. This delicate blush from Origins has always been a staple for me. With just the right amount of sparkle, this blush works all year long, whether I’m sun-soaked or sporting an alabaster glow. Tip: Apply to the apples of your cheeks and along your cheekbones as part of your morning routine.
SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick ($25): Traveling to Korea changed my skin forever. The area is known for its incredible skin-care regimens, which entail layering about six different serums, essences and products onto very clean, calm, pH-balanced skin. This stick contains actual rose petals that work with the other cleansing agents to create the most delicious froth on your face. Tips: Apply in circular motions to create a lather. (If you’re using this in the shower, make sure to keep your face out of direct contact with the water flowing from your shower head—the combination of the product with the water heat and pressure will be too harsh on the capillaries in your skin). Rinse and repeat for nighttime cleansing. Follow with your favorite serum, essence, mineral water, eye cream and hydrating cream.
Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer ($48): Achieving a flawless face generally requires some undereye concealer. This is the only undereye and everything-else concealer you should ever own—it’s not called “sensual” for no reason! One drop of this spackle-like makeup and your entire face is covered. This little jar can last you an entire year. Tips: Cover your undereye bags, then bring the product all the way out and toward to your temples to create a highlighting effect. Discoloration usually occurs around your nose and lip areas, so apply a bit of product there next. Blend with a sponge or a clean hand and you’re good to go! After applying this in the summer, I like to put a dusting of bronzer on my T-zone, followed by a spritz of rosewater for a dewy look that will last all day.
