Eden Passante is someone we’re always looking to for style inspiration. She’s consistently up to something creative and beautiful—and her recent living room makeover is no exception! Below, she shows us the transformative redecorating project she took on with Smitten Studio’s Sarah Sherman Samuel.
When my husband, Zan, and I bought our house, it was in shambles! Most of the money in our initial budget went toward remodeling it and fixing the most important structural elements, so the décor was left largely untouched. For two years, the living room was filled with furniture that Zan and I had collected in our college years (plus a hand-me-down couch from our friends that we’d received about 10 years ago!). So, it was time for an update.
Like many people, I didn’t know where to start with the design process. I knew I could physically do the work myself, but I needed some guidance when it came to pulling together my modern farmhouse aesthetic. I’ve always admired Sarah‘s hip and modern style, so I asked if she would help me with my living room redesign.
We made a joint Pinterest board, and I pinned pictures of living rooms and designs I loved. Sarah also sent over a design questionnaire, and I circled the items I liked on it. From there, she put together a new board and pinned specific design products to it. I could just click on the products and buy them! It worked out perfectly—over the course of six months, I purchased all of the items, had a gorgeous couch custom-made from Viesso (which I love!) and added a new black Dutch door. Overall, the space is a beautiful and modern farmhouse-inspired living room that we can relax in!
From Sarah: “While I was designing Eden’s living room, I knew I had to pull inspiration from her surroundings. Her house is located in an idyllic neighborhood just outside of L.A. (there are white picket fences and kids riding bicycles in the streets). The finished product ended up being a true mix of my modern California-eclectic aesthetic and Eden’s more traditional, rustic style.”
