While we look to the runways to forecast fashion trends, it’s backstage where we learn makeup tips and tricks. From how to achieve the perfect red lips to metallic nails, we’re sharing beauty secrets from some of the leading makeup artists we met backstage during New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016.
Jason Wu: The trick to perfect red lips? Use a lip brush! The Maybelline makeup artists painted on the velvet red lips by dipping their brushes directly into the lipstick and then filling in the model’s lips. Clean, simple skin and slicked-back hair (courtesy of Kérastase!) completes this Spring 2016 look, which we also love for upcoming holiday parties.
Kate Spade: To achieve soft shimmery nails, the key is layering polishes. Deborah Lippmann layered her white crème polish (Amazing Grace) with one thin coat each of shimmery pink (Magic Is The Moonlight) and sparkling lilac (Whatever Lola Wants) to achieve cotton candy-colored nails.
Ryan Roche: Makeup artists are always showing us new ways to use our favorite products. Backstage at Ryan Roche, makeup artist Romy Soleimani applied bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balms on the model’s eyelids. This technique created glossy, blush lids—a beautiful feminine look to test out this winter.
Lela Rose: A winged cat eye can take a look from simple to subtly sexy. Instead of lining just the top lid with black liner, trace a thin line around the entire eye, connecting on the outside to wing into a cat eye. Gradient metallic nails from Nonie Creme complete a look that is both edgy and feminine.
Milly: Backstage at Milly, the look featured “fresh out of the shower” skin and hair. We love how natural this looks, and even better, how easy it is to do at home! The key is prepping your skin, especially with the dry and harsh winter days ahead. First, nurture your skin with serum and mist (like ARCONA’s Booster Defense Serum and Desert Mist) before applying a tinted moisturizer for a clean, fresh appearance.
