I’ll admit I’m one to give into beauty trends—especially when it comes to claims of making your skin look more even, natural and flawless. Sign me up! Over the past few months, the beauty market has been inundated with serum-based foundations. After swearing by BB creams for the past few years, I was excited to try something new on my skin. I tested out a bunch of different formulas and landed on four favorites.
1. e.l.f. Foundation Serum: This is the least expensive of the bunch and I’ll admit the quality matches the price tag, but I find myself grabbing for this bottle very frequently for the ease of application and coverage. For my skin, I found it to look a little shiny after several hours, but nothing blotting paper or a little powder can’t fix.
2. Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint: This one is my favorite and I used it up quickly because it was my daily go-to for a while. While only offered in five shades, I found this formula to look the most natural on my skin tone and I really liked how easily it was to blend. It’s sheer so it doesn’t offer a ton of coverage, but I love to wear it with just a little swipe of bronzer because my makeup routine is minimalist and natural anyway.
3. bareMinerals bareSkin: Another hero product! I’ve used this one for more than a year and still turn to it for big events or photo shoots. The coverage is awesome, but I found it to be a little heavy for everyday wear. I really like the application process (you can read about Abby’s experience with bareSkin here, too). I love how my skin looks in photos when I wear this product.
4. Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum: While it may be the most expensive out of my favorites—it’s worth every penny. The foundation lasts a very long time—a little goes a long way—and it stays in place all day.
