Our contributor, Jamie Stone, has teamed up once again with celebrity makeup artist, Stephen Dimmick, to show us how to nail a perfectly pulled together makeup routine for everyday application. See their tips below!
We’ve all been there! It’s tough to wake up a little late (whoops!) and then see 475 unread emails in your inbox in the morning. That’s why it’s nice to be able to have an everyday makeup routine that requires little-to-no thinking. The good news is that, once you get the hang of this, you can practically do it in your sleep—I promise! I teamed up with celebrity makeup artist, Stephen Dimmick, again to get the best tips on the perfect everyday makeup look, all with the goal of making your morning just a little bit easier.
Tip 1: Keep it simple.
“That’s always my motto,” says Dimmick. Don’t get caught in fads; this will also keep your look absolutely timeless.
Tip 2: Start with SPF (even if your tinted moisturizer already has SPF).
According to Dimmick, this is one of the most important things to do to keep your skin looking its best. In addition to your face, be sure to apply SPF to the neck, chest and shoulders (when exposed).
Tip 3: Spot conceal.
When you’re short on time and just want a light everyday kind of look, you really only need to focus on the under-eye area and around the nose. You can reference this previous concealer post that we did!
Tip 4: Curl your lashes before you apply eye shadow.
“This makes a world of difference,” says Dimmick. And when it comes to shadow color, we recommend a soft pinky peach or neutral color, depending on your preference. These colors are perfect for daytime, but will still make your eyes sparkle. Finish with a deep taupe or coffee color on the outer corner of your eye up into the crease.
Tip 5: Apply gel liner to the top lash line only.
“Especially as we get older, this will help keep our eyes looking like they are lifted,” says Dimmick. “I also make sure that I go from the tear duct area to the very outer corner.” This will make the eyes appear bigger.
Tip 6: Liberally apply mascara.
“You’ll want to apply mascara to the roots of your lashes by wiggling the wand into the root area and then pulling the wand out to the tips,” explains Dimmick. “I love when the mascara is thicker on the roots and then wisps out to the ends!”
Tip 7: Be light on the blush.
This is a daytime look, don’t forget! “Remember, blush is to bring color to the face,” says Dimmick. “It’s meant to brighten our own beauty—not recreate it. I love applying it in an oval shape, generally from just under the cheek bone.”
Tip 8: Apply a natural-tone red lipstick.
“The final punctuation for me is a slick of beautifully pigmented lipstick, in a natural tone of red, believe it or not!” says Dimmick.
