Pinterest-Worthy Trends To Love And Some To Let Go

Pinterest is admittedly a bit of a double-edged sword—its ultra-alluring feed full of inspiring images all have the power to kill an entire afternoon. But, whether it’s motivating us to kick decorating projects into high gear, or the procrastination factor is stealing hours from our day, there’s no denying that Pinterest is our go-to place to put a finger on the pulse of each season’s trends.

This spring, we’re anticipating a major influx of new shapes and silhouettes in our home décor and wardrobes, plus the death of more than a few tried-and-true fads. Scroll on as we break down what’s in and what’s out (hint: RIP, chevron!) for this first half of 2016.

macrame

What’s in:

The boho-chic look is taking the design world by storm this season, with macrame textiles, a plethora of plants on every surface and tribal-inspired textiles layered throughout. Check out our home tour with Alexis Andra for inspiration!

What’s out:

Bright and bold yellow bedrooms are a vision of the past, whereas white walls are having a major moment.

knit hammock

What’s in:

This season has us daydreaming about laying back and relaxing in chic style. Consider adding a comfy crochet hammock to your outdoor space this season! The natural, woven texture of the fabric is so “in” right now, as Lauren Wells showed us in her home tour.

What’s out:

Did you know that reclaimed pallet wood actually often harbors lots of harmful chemicals? Yuck! Ditch the idea of a pallet swing bed in lieu of an all-natural hammock this year.

gray hardwood floors

What’s in:

Hardwood floors in 50 shades of (you guessed it!) gray. The modern, poppy home of Promise Tangeman shows us that gray-toned flooring falls anything but flat! This contemporary hardwood finish offers a sultry and sophisticated look that’s hard to beat.

What’s out:

It’s finally time to start moving away from walls adorned with monograms and signs. Instead, nail the rustic look with washed out floors like Promise’s!

gray nursery

What’s in:

Keep your space contemporary and modern with black-and-white decorative accents and a muted color palette, like Adrianne Betz did in her son’s nursery. You may just find that the monochromatic palette acts as a fresh and moody muse for playing up your most-prized personal possessions.

What’s out:

Just say no to chevron. We know, we know…it’s not easy to say goodbye, but it’s time to let a new pattern take center stage—like ever-classic polka dots!

white bathroom

What’s in:

Pinners are all about minimalism, using techniques like the KonMari organization method to whip their homes into shape. Michelle LeBlanc’s breezy and bright white bathroom shows us that the art of keeping things cleanly decorated acts as a breath of fresh air anywhere in your home.

What’s out:

Bye bye, clutter! It’s time to tuck, purge and donate away until your space feels organized and free of excessive stuff.

modern farmhouse kitchen

What’s in:

Have you noticed an uptick in the amount of modern farmhouse kitchens in your Pinterest feeds, too? This type of look begs for a sleek color palette finished with rustic textures like uneven glass and raw wood. Charlotte Hale does this trend right with her thick black-flecked counters and bubbled glass cabinet doors!

What’s out:

Mediterranean and Italian-inspired kitchens have finally met their match with the clean white aesthetic of today’s top-pinned kitchens!

rattan bassinet

What’s in:

Is it a grown-up’s oasis or a baby’s room? These days, it’s often hard to tell with the emergence of age-neutral children’s décor. Take this nursery in the home of Chloé Fleury, for example. Everyone on our team may be in their 20s or 30s, but we still found lots to swoon over—from the rattan textures and pops of neon color, to the two-toned walls and textiles.

What’s out:

Purely pastel rooms may have been “in” a decade ago, but it’s time to let our kids’ rooms grow up and get tonal!
