Today, we’re breaking things down with green beauty blogger, Jessica Morse, of Bare Beauty. As part of her job, Jessica is always testing new beauty products, and we’ve come to treat her reviews as sacred. So, in honor of Earth Day this month, we had to ask Jessica to share her thoughts on the best of the best in beauty, and to offer a peek into her daily makeup and skincare routines. Details below!
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Either my husband or I will go get our daughter out of her crib and bring her into our bed for a little snuggle time before we start our day.
Coffee or tea?
Green Tea Yerba Mate with the juice of half a lime and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.
Run us through your morning beauty routine. What skincare and beauty products do you typically use?
True Botanicals is my skincare religion. In the morning, I use its cleanser, mist, balancing face oil and Pacific Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF 20. If I have a lunch or meeting, I do the no-makeup makeup look, which is usually a mix of RMS Beauty and W3LL PEOPLE products.
What are your favorite hair products?
How long does it usually take you to get ready in the morning?
It takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on what’s on the agenda for the day.
If you had to run out the door wearing only two beauty products, what would they be?
Mascara is my “desert island” cosmetic of choice. I love Lily Lolo Black Vegan Mascara because it both lengthens and volumizes. Tinted moisturizer with SPF is also non-negotiable.
We all experience that dreaded closet-full-of-clothes-and-nothing-to-wear moment! What’s your go-to outfit that always makes you feel good and put together?
J Brand Maria High Rise Skinny Jeans, a silk tank, a blazer and pumps.
What do you normally eat for breakfast to fuel up for a busy day?
The best smoothie ever!
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 scoop of vegan protein powder
- Handful of mixed greens
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon shelled hemp hearts
- 1 teaspoon maca powder
- 1 teaspoon chlorella powder
- Sprinkle of cinnamon and cayenne pepper
What products do you keep in your purse when you need to do touch-ups while on the go?
Let’s talk evening beauty! What does your beauty and skincare routine look like? What are your favorite products?
I like to wear more dramatic makeup in the evening, so I usually add in Kjaer Weis Eye Shadows for a subtle smokey eye (‘Wisdom’ is universally flattering), or Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in a bold color (‘Goddess’ in fall/winter, ‘Romance’ in spring/summer). My p.m. skincare routine is about the same as in the a.m., except I finish with True Botanicals Pacific Anti-Wrinkle Duet, which attacks both clogged pores and the first signs of aging with equal vigor.
When you aren’t at events or traveling, what does a typical evening look like for you at home?
I try to finish my work early, so that I can cook and enjoy dinner with my family. After we put our daughter to bed, it’s mostly #Netflixandchill.
What’s your go-to easy weekday meal to make?
Seared salmon, this salad and roasted mixed veggies or sweet potatoes.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
I like to take a long, hot Pursoma bath before bed after a stressful day. It only takes 20 minutes, and it makes me sleep like a baby.
What is the last thing you do before bed?
