One of our favorite new posts around here is our A.M. + P.M. series where we ask women we admire to share their routines with us—we love to find out how people start and end their day, what habits they keep, the products they use and more! Today our own editorial director, Caitlin, a new mom and all around busy lady, is sharing her routine with us!
6:30 or 7 a.m.: Rise and shine! These days I don’t set an alarm. In fact, I haven’t set one ever since my daughter Piper was born. Though it’s a recent goal to try and get up 30 minutes before her to fit in a workout at home, I haven’t quite started that yet! I get Piper changed, make coffee, let out and feed our dog and then settle down in my comfy chair with the “TODAY” show on to nurse. I also read theSkimm while I’m nursing. Then I have to pump—the joys of motherhood!—and finally feed Piper her solid breakfast, which typically consists of a little green smoothie or oatmeal with fruit. I’ll usually eat with her and have toast with avocado, granola with almond milk or a green smoothie. I’ve also been making smoothie bowls lately.
8 a.m.: My husband will take over while I run upstairs to get ready (I usually don’t have too much time for this). I shower at night most days, so I’ll wash my face quickly and then put on my makeup. I try to get ‘ready’ every morning and reach for products that offer coverage that will last all day—through messy meal times, errands, walks outside and the weekly photo shoots I’m doing for Glitter Guide. Usually I don’t have time for touch-ups after my husband leaves for the day, so now is my time to make it last!
To help keep my makeup looking fresh all day, I recently started using No7 Stay Perfect Foundation and love the coverage it offers. I have a hard time finding foundations that don’t look caked on or make my skin feel greasy and this one does neither. This lightweight foundation actually stays put and covers my uneven skin without looking too heavy. Plus, it doesn’t smear or fade and is really easy to apply with my fingers or a beauty sponge. I also love that it has SPF 15, especially with being outdoors more during the upcoming summer months. What’s more, No7’s Match Made service made it so easy for me to find the perfect shade for my skin color because of its skin-true options. In fact, No7 color scientists spent four years measuring the skin color of almost 3,000 women around the world, and then used this data to develop the range of skin-true foundation shades.
After I apply foundation, I put on a few swipes of bronzer and mascara and sometimes a little eyeliner on the top of my eyes.
8:30 a.m.: I throw on something comfortable that lends itself to nursing or pumping—typically jeans and a striped top, cotton tee or chambray button up and flats. I try to spend some time playing with my daughter before her morning nap, and then it’s time to head to my office and get prepared for any meetings or calls, organize my day and start tackling my inbox.
5 p.m.: My work day ends for now, and I devote the next two hours to Piper. I’ve been trying to be better about putting away my phone and laptop completely and just being present with her. Sometimes, I try to make dinner for my husband and I during this time—something quick and easy. We’ll play, go for a walk and then I’ll feed Piper dinner, give her a bath and my husband or I will put her to sleep by 7 p.m.
7 p.m.: From 7 to 9 p.m., I do any other work I didn’t get to during the day, which includes working on my blog and figuring out plans to grow my floral business! Of course, there are always emails to respond to as well!
9 p.m.: I pour a cup of chamomile tea and head upstairs to wash my face. Even though my foundation is still in place after a busy day, it easily washes off with my oil-based cleanser. I then apply my night serum and moisturizer and settle into bed to read for an hour. Sometimes I’ll scroll through Instagram, but I try to avoid doing this in bed. Before I turn off the lights, I’ll lather on hand lotion, lip balm and put on my iluminage Skin Rejuvenating Eye Mask!
