Want to know how to throw a Summer Solstice party that your guests will be talking about for weeks after? Your love for entertaining and the idea of kicking off the summer season in style is the perfect excuse to gather your crew together for a fun party. We love celebrating warmer weather this time of year, so we decided to make the most of it by throwing a laid-back Summer Solstice party. Scroll on for details on how to get the look!
Think about a theme.
For this party, we chose a paint, popsicle and pool party theme, where guests could paint themselves (or each other!) with fun designs. It was the perfect activity to get our guests thinking creatively. To keep cool, we provided everyone with tasty summer-inspired cocktails and popsicles. The delicious and adorable ice pops were doled out from a bright retro cart that we rented in order to keep things simple for us as the hosts. Ultimately, we just wanted our guests to enjoy a relaxing afternoon together, where everyone could chat and play in the pool.
Ask yourself what you might want to serve your guests, and what feeling you want the party to exude. What can you offer as entertainment? What overall look are you going for in terms of décor? Once you’ve settled on your vision, the event will come together from there.
The little details are key.
We always like to start with the overall theme and then go from there. For this event, the theme was set around the idea of a classic pool party. After that, we added in elements and activities that would bring the idea home. We thought incorporating the fun body-painting station would give guests something fun to talk about after the event was over. We also planned for refreshing cocktails to keep the heat at bay, and styled them in the bright color palette of the party itself. If you are really blanking on other elements to include, you can always draw inspiration from Pinterest!
Pull it all together.
Once the overall feeling is established, we love pulling together the details of the décor. We wanted to keep it colorful and playful, so we rounded up some vintage glassware with gold accents for the cocktails that were made with Nékter juice. To keep in line with the popsicle theme, we had the cutest laser-cut stir sticks made with little popsicle on them. The cocktails were served from gold trays on a gold bar cart with a huge colorful and whimsical floral arrangement we commissioned from Siren Floral Co. Of course, for our Summer Solstice soirée, we had to have Rachael make a few mandalas, which were designed for the sides of the pool.
Don’t forget the finishing touches.
Filling the pool with heart floats and beach balls gave the party a fun and playful feeling that everyone adored. Each guest was welcomed with a fun Mexican blanket-inspired beach towel by Beach Bum Towel Co., which they were able to take home as favors. The towels were also used as décor for chairs and loungers to keep the theme going. The finishing touch was a collection of beautiful signage to let guests know what was happening at each station within the event.
In the end, it’s all about the little details that set your fête apart from the rest. Ask yourself what you might want to serve your guests, and what feeling you want the party to exude. What can you offer as entertainment? What overall look are you going for in terms of décor? Once you’ve settled on your vision, the event will come together from there.
Now, all that’s left is to gather your girls and plan a fun little Summer Solstice party of your own!
