Looking to spend a little more time in the great outdoors this warm-weather season? Below, Alyssa Thiel, of Parris Chic Boutique, shares five things to keep in mind when planning your perfect summer picnic.
I’m a believer that nothing celebrates the beauty of summer quite like a pretty alfresco meal under the clouds! One of my favorite things to do on a perfect sunny day is grab a few gals, find a peaceful park and host a fun little picnic. Sure, a picnic may be defined as a combo of any old blanket and a quick snack, but what’s the fun in that? I’m here today to share a few essentials to help turn a spontaneous lunch outside into a well-thought-out, but oh-so simple and lovely picnic.
1. Find the perfect setting.
Does a favorite park come to mind? This could be anything from the water’s edge, to a big open field covered in the sweet smell of your favorite flowers. The possibilities are endless, just make sure you think about it ahead of time and pick a special place where you are sure to enjoy your time. The setting should be equally as magical as the picnic you are about to provide!
2. Grab your gals.
No one will appreciate the details more than your fancy friends! If you want to go the extra mile, send them a sweet little invite a week or so in advance. They’ll feel special, and having something fun to look forward to is always a bonus! Would you rather be spontaneous? Send a mass text with all the picnic emojis and the address to your location. Surprise! The picnic of their dreams awaits.
3. Skip the traditional picnic basket.
A favorite of mine is this “Hello Lovely” tote. The lovelier your bag, the lovelier your whole day will be—am I right? Don’t forget to pack up all the prettiest picnic essentials. Grab a gorgeous blanket, your sun hat, a candle or two and, of course, some freshly picked blooms!
4. Did someone say cheeseboard?
It’s a no-brainer that food and beverages are the most important part of a good picnic. Is there anything yummier than a cheeseboard filled to the brim with cheeses, crackers and jam? Other must-haves include wine or sangria paired with bread and olive oil, slices of watermelon and any other refreshing fruit. Add in some dainty sandwich bites for a bit more of a meal.
5. Don’t forget to pack the pillows.
You’ll want to be comfy while you picnic, so bring a slew of throw pillows to complement your picnic blanket. This will cozy up the space and ensure that your friends will never want to leave! This way, everyone can kick back, relax and just enjoy each other’s company along with the beautiful rays from summer’s finest weather. It’s the small extra details that will push your picnic from “plain” to “pretty.” Enjoy!
