Caitlin’s Wedding In BRIDES Magazine!

Caitlin And Austin Kruse Wedding 3

It may seem like forever ago, but Caitlin’s finally excited to share a peek at her wedding from September 2014. What’s more, it’s featured in the current issue of BRIDES and also on Brides.com!

After months and months of planning my own wedding, it’s so fun to finally see the images online and relive that amazing day. It feels like it was just yesterday! I’m sharing a few of my favorite photos by my incredible photographer-turned-friend, Abby Jiu, and details from the wedding. You can check out the full feature over on Brides.com!

The morning of: I loved getting ready with my girls so much. Because the wedding was in the evening, we had a leisurely morning watching TV in bed, sipping Champagne (and water, of course!) and getting our hair and makeup done at the hotel. One of my bridesmaids brought in food, and several family members dropped in throughout the day to say hi!

My bridesmaid gifts: I ordered my girls robes on Victoria’s Secret after spending entirely too much time searching for the perfect color! I got my own lace silk robe from a British retailer (I can’t even remember the name now!). In addition to the robes, I gave my girls sleep masks from Plum Pretty Sugar. I picked up little unfinished wooden boxes from Michael’s and stained them myself. Then, I had my calligrapher, Laura Hooper, letter a wooden tag for each girl. Inside was a Kate Spade necklace with their initial. I also included a vintage hankie, hand lotion and beautiful lip balm from Anthropologie in the box.

My bridal look: I saw this gown on Watters website and knew it was the one—though I still tried on plenty in stores. I loved the combination of lace and tulle and the ethereal feel. It ended up being on the shorter side when it arrived so I couldn’t wear heels. Instead, I opted for the flats my mom wore on her wedding day! I always wear large, statement earrings, so I really wanted to include them on my wedding day look. My friend picked up these gorgeous earrings from a J.Crew sample sale (she lives in New York City) and they were perfect. I wore a bracelet from J.Crew layered with one of my great-grandmother’s pieces.

Our tablescape: I kept the tables simple, letting the venue and flowers do the talking! We had ivory linens and my mother-in-law made linen-like napkins and table runners by hand to add a little texture (I shared the DIY tutorial on my blog here). In addition, Holly Chapple created lush garden-inspired compotes full of greens. But the most special accent was an olive branch from my grandmother’s yard in Napa Valley that we put at each seat.

Cocktail Hour: This may have been my favorite part of the night! We loved mingling with guests as the sun set over the lawn. Guests sipped on our signature cocktail (The Sullivan—named after our dog), and we brought in my favorite sparkling rosé from Mumm Napa in Napa Valley and set up a ‘sparkling rosé cart.’ Guests were served out of vintage Champagne coupes I spent a year collecting. We added greenery and a scroll that Laura Hooper lettered.

My bridesmaids: My gals rented Joanna August dresses from Vow To Be Chic. I picked a pale blush and nude in the same cap-sleeve style. They were so loose and flowy and fit the look I was going for perfectly.

Other details: We set up an escort board outside the dining area (I made little tags with velvet ribbon and Paper Source paper, which Laura Hooper lettered). We hung them on brass nails I ordered on Amazon and adorned the board with greens! For favors, my sister and I baked 200 coconut macaroons (following my late grandmother’s recipe) and tied them up in little boxes for guests. We printed the recipe on little vellum cards and stuck them inside. People still comment about those cookies today and I love showing up to parties and seeing my grandmother’s recipe on the table!
