First, let’s talk about designlovefest! When did you launch the site, and how has it grown since then in terms of content and direction?

In 2009, I was working full-time as a graphic designer for a headphones company. I was searching for inspiration and my own personal style at the time, and decided to start a blog to start documenting what I was drawn to and to keep an online journal. I had no idea it would turn into a future job of mine, but I remember loving it so much that I would post 10 times a day or more! Over time, the site became a little less like a diary and more about a place of inspiration. However, I still like having my own voice on the site and sharing my personal side.

Have you always been creative? Do you remember what first sparked your interest in the world of art and design?

When I think back to being a kid, I remember always being fascinated by creativity. I still remember laying in the sun with my babysitter and painting pictures of yellow flowers and getting really excited in art class. As I got older, my favorite school projects were the ones that I could express myself with visuals. I think I’ve always been drawn to the arts!

What has been the best thing about teaming up with the Cheeky brand to design your collection of entertaining pieces?

It’s been a very natural and fun collaboration. I’ve absolutely loved the whole process! Seeing it in person at the Target headquarters was definitely a surreal moment, and I love seeing people tag the plates and cups on Instagram at their parties—it’s very heartwarming.

Take us through the design process for the collection. How did you go about choosing colors, patterns, etc.?

I’m a big fan of Scandinavian design. The black and white with hints of blush plates are more for your everyday use, and then we also did a few colorful and eccentric designs because I love color so much. I wanted there to be a variety of simple/clean and festive designs to choose from.

Describe your festive brunch! What key elements made it a morning to remember?

I always love these types of low-key get-togethers. Twenty girls that have busy schedules and tons to catch up on, Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ playing in the background, mimosas, laughter, sunshine and people having fun in my home…I just love it!
