The Best At-Home Gel Manicure

Today, Caitlin is sharing her latest drugstore beauty find that’s totally changed her nail polish routine. Read on to see which product wow-ed her.

I love a good gel manicure, especially when I’m traveling or before a special event. However, a gel manicure is a splurge and it really damages my nails (because I never take the time to properly remove it). After I get a gel manicure, I always swear “never again,” but it is so convenient and I don’t have to worry about my nails chipping for weeks. I’ve tried a few at-home gel polishes, and until recently, Revlon and Butter were my favorites. Although they applied easily and lasted longer than my other polishes, I wouldn’t really compare them to a professional gel. Both brands were also a big pain to remove.

I just tried Essie’s Gel Couture line and I am obsessed (if you watch my Instagram stories or Snapchat, you probably already know!). Not only does it go on easily and thick, it dries quickly and lasts a full week! It’s a two-step process—color followed by a topcoat, but you don’t need to use a lamp to dry the polish. I was curious how easy it would be to remove (because I didn’t use a base coat), but it was easier than any of my other polishes! I swiped all my polish off with two cotton balls in a matter of minutes. I’m hooked! My favorite color is ‘Spool Me Over.’ I usually have trouble applying light-colored polishes and pastels without streaking, but this one looks like a salon-professional gel.

  • I’ve tried the gel couture line & I’m obsessed!! I especially love the brush and how one swipe covers my entire nail. And I like how a base coat isn’t necessary (if you use one, you’ll end up with bubbles). Will need to add Spool Me Over to my collection…?

  • I love the colours of Essie nail polish, the regular kind just doesn’t stay on my nails even with a super duper strength top coat. I’m so looking forward to trying the gel line! Here’s hoping I get at least a week out of it. I’ve heard nothing but great reviews!
