There’s something so nostalgic about Apple Crumble! I grew up with this sweet treat baking in the oven on a regular basis, and some of my favorite memories involve my grandmother peeling apples while watching her favorite soap operas (shout out to “The Young and the Restless”!) as she prepared to make this cozy dessert. I love how it fills up a home with the warm spicy scent of cinnamon, which seriously brings all the fall feels. I made this recipe in single-serve ramekins to elevate it for your next seasonal dinner party, but you could also make it in a 9-by-13-inch pan. Don’t forget to serve it warm with an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream!
- 2 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 1/4 cups (packed) light brown sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (two sticks) chilled butter
- 5 apples (Golden Delicious, Gala, or a combo of varieties), peeled, cored and cut into small cubes
- 4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375 F. Mix oats, 1 cup of brown sugar and flour in a bowl. Add butter, and using your hands, mix the butter into the dry ingredients until the topping comes together in buttery clumps.
- Mix cubed apples, lemon juice, cinnamon and 1/4 cup of brown sugar in bowl.
- Fill ramekins almost to the top with the apple mixture, and crumble the oat mixture on top generously. Place ramekins onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake crumble until bubbly, golden and crisp (about an hour). Cool slightly and serve with ice cream. Can be made a day in advance and reheated in the oven.
