We are so excited to announce that we are one of the sites participating in this season’s One Room Challenge! We couldn’t be more honored to be a part of such an amazing group of designers who will all be renovating a room and documenting the experience over the next six weeks. You can check back here every Wednesday for updates and to see what the other designers are up to.
So, to kick things off, we thought we’d share the really authentic “before” shots! Caitlin will be tackling her master bedroom, a room that’s been neglected for the past year since she moved into her house.
“I didn’t think twice about what room I wanted to work on for the challenge. We spend a lot of time in our bedroom and it’s become a catchall for all the random stuff we don’t have a place for in our home. I’ve never had a bedroom I really loved and am so looking forward to creating a relaxing space that speaks to our style and isn’t just a mish-mash of odds and ends.”
We just finished renovating our master bath, so our bedroom has been in total chaos the last two months. We are upgrading to a king-size bed, which we are both excited about, though I’m a little nervous our room will feel much tighter since it’s not that large. However, with our 55-pound lab and nearly 2-year-old daughter, we need more space!
We have double doors that lead to a little deck and stairs to our yard. The blinds are horrible and will be replaced with floor-to-ceiling curtains from The Shade Store that can be pushed to either side. The doors themselves will also get a fresh coat of paint.
We’ve started on our closet renovation already, which began with our bathroom reno that we just wrapped up. We’ll be knocking down the wall to the left of the dresser to extend the space and instead of having a curtain to cover the opening, we’ll be installing four white doors from Metrie with beautiful gold knobs from Emtek. We are so excited about this! I’m still working on the design and organization for inside of the closet!
Another big change will be replacing the old, beat-up carpet with hardwood floors from Mohawk Flooring. I’m so excited about this and think it will really transform the space!
My husband is in grad school and unfortunately doesn’t have an office space in our house, so this is his sad little nook in our bedroom. We’ll be adding built-in shelves to utilize the open space above and creating a built-in desk.
This fan is so sad and I can’t wait to replace it with a sleek, efficient one from Haiku.
This dresser will be moving into another area of our house and we’ll be getting a wooden one from ATG Stores. I’m working on sourcing artwork, a mirror and a lamp for this area!
Oh, bedding? What’s that?! We’ve been sleeping with an uncovered down comforter for the past year! I’m beyond excited to finally have proper bedding and we’ve picked out the most gorgeous linen set from Pine Cone Hill, the same place we are getting our rug!
Because we’ll have limited space for nightstands (still on the hunt for some small ones), we’ll be hanging sconces from Lamps Plus on the wall to free up space.
Of course, we’ll be giving this room a coat of fresh paint from Farrow & Ball! So, here’s a peek at what we have in the works. I’m excited, albeit a little scared, about this challenge, but eager to start on six weeks worth of hard work to create the bedroom of my dreams!
