3-Day Rejuvenating Spring Detox

Contributor, Kara Stout, is back to share a gentle spring detox that incorporates fresh, whole foods and seasonal recipes that will leave us feeling energized and ready to embrace this new season! Prep tips along with lifestyle detox suggestions are also included to help make this an enjoyable act of self-care.

Spring is the perfect time to take three days to focus on cleansing your body and showing it some healthy love and care. I’m not talking about a detox that’s really difficult, very limited with food, liquid-based or that will cause major hangryness. That’s definitely not what we want! We want this to be enjoyable and satisfying. We want you to end the detox feeling happy and refreshed.

There’s nothing like the feeling of spring in the air. Spring brings longer days, more sunshine and an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies. Our bodies naturally crave cleansing, energizing and detoxifying foods this season. We start to crave more salads, water, fresh juices and more vibrant foods. So, let’s embrace these healthy cravings by starting a gentle spring detox.

You’ll want to focus on whole, plant-based foods, incorporating lots of greens, vegetables, citrus, fruit, herbs, healthy fats and plant-based protein. You can also include high-quality animal protein if that’s your preference during the detox. This is your spring detox, so make it your own and what feels most beneficial for you.

The suggested meals I provide below are mostly plant-based, vegan and vegetarian. However, as I mentioned above, feel free to add in grilled chicken or fish if need be. If you find you are feeling great with no meat, try to stick with that during these three days. Note: high-quality, organic, pasture-raised, grass-fed meats can be a part of a healthy diet in general, depending on personal health and preferences.

Again, the goal for this easy detox is for your self-care and wellness and to not feel deprived. My hope is that you feel rejuvenated and re-energized!

Before you begin your spring detox, here are some suggested prep tips to start doing about a week prior. This is to ensure you don’t shock your body and to ease into it gently.

I decided to break this detox into two parts, a diet detox and a lifestyle detox. Both are important to focus on!

You’ll notice that each morning, I suggest drinking warm water with fresh lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, clementine juice and cinnamon. This is a great concoction to help detoxify, boost your metabolism and immune system, boost your mood and improve digestion. It’s also beneficial for clear, pretty skin. You can continue this morning practice beyond this detox!

Wait 30 minutes before eating breakfast.

Breakfast: Blood Orange Chia Seed Pudding (If you can’t find blood oranges, no worries! Just use an orange instead). *Remember to make this the night before!

Lunch: Spring Swiss Chard & Avocado Salad with Lime Dressing

Dinner: Healthy Spring Pizza Recipe with Cauliflower Crust to celebrate your three days!

Snack Options:

(If you find you’re hungry between meals, remember we don’t want you hangry on this detox, so incorporate a healthy snack as needed!):

  • Hummus with veggies
  • Raw trail mix
  • Almond butter and celery
  • Spring Toast – pick your fav!
  • Sweet potato fries
  • Green juice (opt for ones with more veggies and not a ton of fruit or sugar)
  • Kale chips
  • Berries
  • ¼ avocado cubes with cucumber slices and sea salt

Drink Options:

  • Drink plenty of pure water throughout the day (you can add fresh fruit, veggies and herbs to your water, too!)
  • Dandelion tea
  • Ginger Lemon Detoxifying Tea

Lifestyle Detox

  • Aim for eight hours of sleep
  • Hopefully, weather permitting, enjoy a lot of sunshine and sit outside in nature
  • Gentle, enjoyable exercise (i.e. yoga, barre, walking, biking outside)
  • Detox from social media: consider spending all three days off of social media. If that’s not doable, then do what you can. Maybe one full day or two, but I would recommend at least giving yourself one full day.
  • Spend some time reading a good book.
  • Do something good for the soul: pray, journal, meditate, Bible study
  • Reduce TV and Internet use
  • Rest
