Prior to having children, I probably would have said the bedtime routine with kids would be one of my least favorite things. In many ways, that’s true. The bedtime routine is no joke! We’re all tired and trying to accomplish a lot on a strict timeline, which is often a recipe for stress with kids. What surprises me, though, is that many parts of the nighttime routine are actually my favorite! I look forward to that special time with my littles every single day, and I’ve partnered with Cath Kidston to share why.
It’s really the small details of our bedtime routine that stand out to me. Getting new pajamas is something that my kids absolutely love. They get so excited to wear them and it often gets them eager to start the bedtime routine when they are motivated by new pajamas. Plus, to me there isn’t anything cuter than freshly bathed kiddos in new pajamas. I fell in love with Cath Kidston’s selection of colorful printed pajamas. If you haven’t heard of Cath Kidston, I’m excited to share a bit about the brand with you all! Cath Kidston is the Home of Modern Vintage, founded in 1993 and based in the UK. The brand makes everything from pajamas and accessories to houseware.
My daughter and I went with the vintage-inspired floral prints. She looks so cute in this long nightie (she loves the little bow detail at the collar), and I love my flannel set that’s super cozy for the winter season. For my son, I chose the dragon pj set because he’s a big fan of everything dragon! Cath Kidston pays a lot of thoughtful attention to its designs and I appreciate that as a mom. The prints are also specially designed in its London headquarters, and I love how they’re fun and include a hint of nostalgia, which is perfect for my admiration of vintage.
Besides the extra cuddles I get from my kids when I give them a kiss goodnight, my favorite part of the bedtime routine is reading to them. We snuggle on my daughter’s bed and pick out a few books to read as a family. Oftentimes, the kids get rambunctious and start jumping around and playing, but that’s all part of why I love it. Seeing their relationship grow is really special. They get so excited to read together that they can’t contain their excitement. Once they do, it’s so sweet as they both point to things in the book and show me what catches their attention. It’s definitely little moments like these that I will remember forever.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of our bedtime routine:
- 6:30 p.m. – Bath time for both kids
- 7 p.m. – Put on pajamas, brush teeth and pick out books
- 7:10 p.m. – Read a few books as a family. Some current favorites right now are Today, Night-Night, Wooly and Gaston
- 7:25 p.m. – I take my son to our bedroom (they still aren’t sharing a room) and give him some milk and cuddles before bed. My husband will read another book to my daughter.
- 7:40 p.m. – My son goes to bed. Then I take over with my daughter and snuggle and tuck her in.
- 7:50 p.m – 8 p.m. – My daughter goes to bed
