This Christmas feels like our first true holiday as a family of four. Last year, my son was only four months old and we were still in that sleep-deprived, newborn fog. Now that he’s one and walking around, it feels like we can finally start creating holiday traditions as a family of four. Prior to having children, I may have thought some of these things were silly, but now I see that they really shape our kids and give them things to look back on with joy.
Tree trimming is something my family really looks forward to. My daughter gets so excited to help out. We’ve created a whole evening out of it. The first thing that has to happen is matching pajamas. That’s a no-brainer. I was so excited to find these darling Polar Bear PJs from Cath Kidston. They make the best prints – they’re so cheery and joyful – and their flannel pajamas are incredibly comfortable. I love that my daughter’s Pointelle PJ Set and my son’s Baby Polar Bear top and bottoms have the same print but are a little different from each other. My son loves to point to us all and say “Bear!” repeatedly. It’s pretty cute.
While we decorate the tree, we listen to our favorite Christmas albums (Justin Bieber’s Under The Mistletoe has been the current family favorite). We also drink hot chocolate out of cute little Santa mugs. My daughter likes hers with extra whipped cream, naturally, and my son steals licks. If we have time, we bake our favorite holiday chocolate chip cookies.
One new tradition we’ve started now that my daughter is almost four is playing board games. Cath Kidston has these super cute games that make for such adorable gifts. We picked up Cards, Bingo and Charades. My daughter loved Bingo! My son decided it would be more fun if we played with all the chips! It’s going to be a few years till he can really play games with us. I can envision how fun family Charades will be when they both are a little older.
The tree-trimming night has become one of my favorite family nights of the entire year. I can’t wait to see how these new holiday traditions evolve with us year after year. Let me know what some of your holiday traditions and if there’s anything special you’d like to see in the Cath Kidston line!
