With the season coming to an end (bummer) and wardrobes everywhere preparing to do the dreaded transition into cold-weather appropriateness, your summer pieces are shaking in their boots…er… sandals. Thankfully, our contributor, Chelsea Jackson of Hazel + Scout, is detailing all of the ways to carry over your favorite pieces from season to season.
Keep scrolling to see the summer pieces that you can transition into fall!
This summer staple is one of my favorite chic nods to warm days and long nights. The easygoing basket bag is beloved by Parisian girls and stateside fashionistas alike but did you know it can transition into fall with ease? Pair yours with a sweater, denim or basically anything for a look that’s part-endless summer and part-autumn ready.
When the temps are high, there’s nothing I love more than a no-brainer of a sundress. They’re unfussy, easy-to-match accessories to, and perfect for summer spontaneity. The best way to make your favorite sundress last all year? Layer a T-shirt underneath or add something warmer on top (I’m thinking a long duster, denim jacket or army green anorak will do the trick). Talk about mileage!
Although I waxed poetic about my hatred of shorts here, a good pair of shorts is a summer must-have. By tweaking your styling just a little bit, polished shorts look great even in the fall! Try switching out your camis and graphic tees for a crisp button-up or a lived-in blazer for a look that was made for the autumn chill. Don’t forget to elevate the accessories. Fall calls for something a bit more pulled together than summer’s laid-back vibe.
Silky duster coats and sweeping kimonos were super on-trend this summer and they usually accompanied that pair of shorts we just talked about. Cute, right? Why not layer a flowy kimono or calf-skimming duster over pants and knits for longevity?
Jumpsuits & Overalls
The easy jumpsuit became my summer uniform this year and is it really any wonder why? These one-piece outfits are breathable, pulled-together, and make dressing a breeze. Wear yours all fall by layering additional pieces over and under (much like you did with that sundress) and all around. Overalls are great for autumn, too, when paired with long sleeves!
