Courtney Halverson’s east side LA home is a vintage lover’s dream with treasures found in every room. Featuring a mid-century modern and California desert aesthetic, the Craftsman-style house also includes some modern pieces (from Target!) and beautifully blends the old with the new. Her love of woodland creatures (hence the name of her blog PrettyLittleFawn) is also represented throughout the space. Find out where the actress and blogger finds all of her vintage pieces and tips on getting expensive furniture for less. You’ll find this and so much more in this home tour, so let’s get started! Enjoy!
Tell us about your new space! We love following along with the progress on Instagram.
My husband and I moved out of our Echo Park apartment to a house on the east side late last year. It’s our first time living in a house together—up until now we’ve lived in various small and sometimes tiny apartments together. The first place we lived in together was a partially underground basement that measured under 600 square feet, so living in a two-bedroom house feels palatial! This house was built in the 1930s and is a Craftsman style.
How would you describe the vibe and design aesthetic of your home?
I’d say the design aesthetic of our home is a blend of mid-century modern and California desert aesthetic, but truthfully, I don’t really know how best to describe it! There’s a lot of vintage pieces mixed in with newer pieces, so it’s a real blend of decades.
Our favorite part might be your office/closet space. What were your design goals when creating that space?
My closet/office (or as I’ve seen it referred to online, my ‘Cloffice’) is where I spend most of my day, so it was the first room I focused on designing and decorating. My goals for creating the space were to keep it as open as possible, because it’s the room where I plan all of my content. If I receive a package of clothing, it goes straight into my office where I unpack it and hang it on my clothing rack, which is what I use to plan my shoots for the week. I kept the center of the room clear so I could utilize the mirror when outfit planning, and the wicker chair is where I sit to either take a break from my desk, or to have my coffee in the morning as I plan the day.
Your home has a great mix of vintage and modern. Where are your favorite places to shop for vintage treasures?
I’ve loved hunting for vintage treasures for years, so a lot of the pieces in our home are things I found when I was a teenager living at home. I ended up starting a bit of a ‘hope chest’ with things I found at mostly thrift stores and estate sales, so when I moved out I was pretty set up with vintage linens and kitchen tools. My favorite places to shop for vintage are any thrift store in LA, antique malls in Orange, estate sales all over, or, of course, the best place in the world: The Rose Bowl Flea Market. I go early in the morning with a giant coffee and listen to podcasts as I comb the aisles.
What about for affordable, yet stylish furniture?
When it comes to finding deals for furniture, I’m a firm believer in looking online at more expensive sites, and then searching for those same items secondhand on sites like Craigslist or Chairish. A lot of the things in our home are secondhand, and it’s hard to tell they aren’t brand new. Another place we’ve had a lot of luck is Target. Its collections get better every season and a lot of the furniture we had to buy when moving into a bigger space came from Target’s Project 62 line.
We’ve always loved your blog, PrettyLittleFawn. Where did that name come from?
The name for my blog, PrettyLittleFawn, came from my love of woodland creatures! I’ve always loved deer, and since I had a doe tattooed on my back, I decided to give my blog the name Fawn, since it felt so new and fresh when I started it back in 2011.
You are a blogger, but your main job is an actress! Do you have any exciting upcoming projects you can tell us about?
Blogging has been my side-hustle for a number of years now, but I first started as an actress when I was 13. I’ve been working in the business for over half of my life and have been able to work on a lot of really fun projects. My latest project is a film called St. Agatha. It’s set in a convent in the 1950s, features an almost entirely female cast and it is SO scary. I’m a big baby when it comes to horror films, and even though I was there on set when we shot some of the scarier parts, I still have to close my eyes during screenings. It’s currently headlining some great festivals, and it’s been really fun to attend alongside the director (Darren Lynn Bousman of the SAW franchise) and my incredible castmates (too many to name, but they are all extremely talented women).
You’ve had the opportunity to travel to a lot of beautiful places. Are there any in particular that were a favorite experience?
This summer, my husband and I visited Italy for the first time to see Rome. We’ve been fortunate to travel together quite a bit in the last few years, but this trip was one of our favorites, simply because of the amount of history that Rome holds. You can’t walk more than a few blocks without seeing something gorgeous and ancient, and of course, the food is THE best. I’m a pasta addict, and we make our own homemade pasta at home, but nothing compares to the real deal.
You’re a fellow A Color Story filter pack sister! Tell us about some of your other favorite collaborations.
I created a pack of filters for ACS and was so honored to be contacted! I never thought I’d be able to collaborate with these companies and brands, but as I grow as a blogger, I’ve had amazing opportunities. One of my favorite collabs from this year was getting to work with Chloé to celebrate the launch of its newest fragrance. My husband and I have created a few videos and a lot of photos with Chloé, and it’s just such a dream come true because it has been one of my favorite brands since I was very young. Another collaboration I’m very proud of is the candle I created with the brand Craft+Foster. Getting to see my name on a physical product was overwhelmingly exciting.
What are 3 items on your fashion wish list?
I’m currently hunting for knee-high camel leather boots for the fall, a midi-length skirt for cooler weather and an oversized chunky cardigan. I really love dressing for the fall, and cannot wait for summer to end!
Tell us about your working relationship with your husband. What role does he play in your brand?
My husband and I only started working together in the last couple of years, and recently it’s become a full-time job for both of us. It’s something we never envisioned in the beginning, mostly because my blog was always ‘just for fun,’ but it’s worked out surprisingly well for us to team up like this! He shoots all of the photos and videos for the blog, and handles editing all video content as well as creating original music for each video. I think at first we were nervous to become coworkers since I’ve heard horror stories about working alongside your spouse, but now I can’t imagine working with anyone else! We’re able to finish content so quickly because we understand each other so well, and he is constantly motivating me to work harder because he pushes himself so much. We’re a great team!
