Spring cleaning might get all the press, but fall is a great time to clean, too! Before nesting season, and the craziness of the holidays sets in, it’s the perfect time to get every aspect of your life in order. Then, you can focus on the future, and closing out 2018 with ease. Our contributor, Kaleigh Glaza, is here with some helpful tips on fall cleaning.
Clean Your Home
This one is crucial before the holiday season approaches. You don’t want to have to do a deep clean the day before your holiday party or last minute before your relatives arrive from out of town. Focus on public areas like your living room space and the kitchen. Start by making a schedule to do regular sweeping, dusting and Swiffering on a weekly basis. This will save you time in the long run because you’ll just be maintaining a clean instead of starting anew.
You can then make small décor updates that will still have a big impact!
Clean Your Closet
Though it might not be out in the open, your closet is a “room” you visit daily and having it in tip-top shape can help make your room cleaner and your mornings easier.
There’s nothing worse than having an idea of an outfit in your mind, and then not being able to find that shirt or necklace or pair of shoes that you want. And that can happen so easily if you are hoarding unnecessary and unorganized items in your closet! So, start by cleaning out everything you don’t like, doesn’t fit or that you haven’t worn in 6 months or more. Here are some easy tips for that step!
Then invest in good hangers and develop a system for how you want your clothes organized. Maybe you prefer to sort by color, or sleeve length, or clothing type…or all of the above! No matter which system works for you, take the time to do a full overhaul and your sanity will thank you later.
Clean Your Beauty Cabinet
This is a sneaky one! Hidden in drawers and behind cabinet doors and under sinks…tons of old hair, beauty and skincare products lurk. They take up space, probably have gone bad and just generally gunk up your bathroom. On the flip side, you might find hidden gems in the far corners as well.
So, take everything out. We mean everything. Clean out your drawers, off your shelves, out of purses and suitcases. Then, cull your stash. Toss what you must, then give the rest to your girlfriends or roommates! Just because you haven’t used that eyeshadow you bought ages ago, doesn’t mean it has to go to waste.
Clean Your Body
Yes, this is annoying…but fall is a great time to get a jump-start on your New Year’s resolutions (or re-start on this year’s resolutions one more time).
Start by planning out your fitness goals and routine. We love this monthly calendar idea from Lakeshore Lady! This helps make your workouts a part of your life, not something you can easily forget about or push aside.
Then, try something new! Boxing. Spin. Dance. Even trampoline fitness classes are out there for the taking, and fall is the perfect time to give them a try.
Clean Your Inbox
Now is the time! If you haven’t signed up for services like Unroll.Me yet, do it ASAP. It will help streamline your inbox and keep you from getting emails from stores, services or websites that you never use.
If you’re a Gmail user, you should also make sure you’re taking full advantage of its latest system updates. It will make your email life cleaner and easier to manage.
It’s time to hit that reset button, people! Fall is here, so let’s make the most of it!
