How I Found The Perfect Holiday Party Looks Without Stepping Foot In A Store

If you remember, a while back I wrote about my hatred of the mall and the hours I would spend going from store to store to find the right thing. I shared about my love of Try.com and how I used it to keep my wardrobe up to date, but without having to hit the stores. Since then, I’ve used Try.com to find a dress for a wedding, and my husband even used it on his own to find the perfect pair of jeans. This holiday season, I’m back at it again. I know for me, like many of you, the holidays are crazyyyy. Like, can barely catch my breath, crazy. We have so many holiday functions and parties, plus shopping for gifts and decorating and everything that comes along with the season.

But last week, I realized I didn’t have anything in my closet for this massive list of holiday get-togethers! I have some that are more casual (think cardigan and cute shoes) and some that are fancier (think sequins and Champagne). So rather than hit the mall in a desperate attempt to find something, I turned to my tried + trusty Try.com.

why I love Try.com

If you didn’t catch my last post on my experience with Try.com, I’ll share a bit of a refresher. You know how you can be one size at one store and a completely different one at another store? Annoying, right? You basically have two options: Go to the store and spend a bunch of time in the dressing room trying to find the right fit, or you can order 10 different pairs, hope that one fits and then send back the rest.

I didn’t love either of these options. Because, I don’t know about you, but my credit card limit isn’t really high enough to be ordering 10 different pairs of jeans while I wait for the refund to hit 😂. At least not without my husband getting really mad. Try.com fronts the bill for you, so you can try on whatever your heart desires at no cost. It is integrated with so many of my favorite stores including Free People, Madewell and ASOS. All you do is download the app, pick which items you want to try on from each store, and Try.com will place the orders for you and cover the cost. Once you get your items, you keep what you love, and send the rest back. So you only pay for what you want to keep.

OK, so back to my holiday shopping. I had two major requirements: sequins and velvet. I’m looking for two or three outfits (with shoes!!) to get me through my holiday parties. Read on to check out my #TryHaul for the festive days ahead!

First, I tried on five outfits from ASOS. When I saw that sequin kimono dress online I fell in love with the color, but unfortunately it was just too much fabric for my 5’3 frame. But I do think I’ll keep that fluffy cardigan in the bottom left pic just for fun.

Winner, winner!! Obsessed with this velvet floral number. It’s perfect for some of my dressier holiday parties.

For my Madewell #TryHaul picks, I ordered these velvet jeans, two sweaters and the Remi bow mules in blush. I definitely think the look on the left is my “cozy” holiday look. The sweater is sooo soft.

Free People never lets me down. This dress from my #TryHaul might not be very “holiday-y,” but my husband told me I look like Belle and Dolly Parton had a baby so obviously I have to keep it. I’m thinking of pairing it with that cozy plum sweater from ASOS.

I’m LIVING for this skirt, but when I saw it on the website, I didn’t realize it had built in tiny white biker shorts. I’m brave, but not that brave 😂.

I ended up pairing the Free People dress with the ASOS cardigan and the Madewell mules for my final lewk. I mean, can you imagine how much time that would have taken if I had to go from store to store?! I ended up with three outfits that are festive, yet cozy—just the way I like it!

Try.com is hosting a super fun sweepstakes this month where you can win $500 to any one of its supported stores, just by sharing your #TryHaul with a minimum of five items. That’s $500 to Free People, Madewell, Forever 21, Zara, Urban Outfitters and a bunch more. I mean, can you think of a better way to kick off the new year than with a $500 shopping spree?
