I’ve never been one to wear much makeup, but I hate to admit, that even my minimal routine has changed since I traded my full-time New York City publishing job for a freelance career back in 2013. Let’s just say that between working from home and being a stay-at-home mom to two young kids, makeup is not at the top of my priority list. However, I do feel better about my appearance and more put-together when I apply some makeup, so I’m here today to offer my typical daily makeup routine.
I always start with a clean face and toned skin thanks to Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2. Next, I mix a little moisturizer with Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream with SPF 30 to hydrate and correct any skin issues (redness, dullness, etc.) and leave my skin with a healthy glow. The little bit of color this provides is more than enough for me, so I usually skip the foundation step in my makeup routine.
Next, I apply Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35, which brightens the eye area (read: hides the dark circles from lack of sleep), and leaves it feeling moisturized. For bronzer, I’ve been loving the e.l.f. Golden Bronzer palette. I bought it at the drugstore in a pinch one day and I’ve been using it ever since (you can’t beat the $4 price tag on it). I’ve been using Benefit Dandelion Box O’ Powder Blush since I was in college, and it remains my favorite to this day. I love the subtle ballerina pink color it leaves on my cheeks. Then I apply my favorite Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Brush-On Sunscreen SPF 50 powder all over my face.
I have very sensitive eyes, and my eyes bother me so much when I wear a lot of eye makeup, so I try to keep it to a minimum on most days. When I do use eyeshadow, I rely on the Jane Iredale Eye Shadow Kit in Naturally Matte. The colors are neutral and natural-looking, and I always feel comfortable wearing these colors no matter the occasion. I’ve also found that the Benefit They’re Real Mascara doesn’t bother my eyes as much as some others, and they make my lashes look long, yet natural. As for my lips, I prefer lip gloss over lipstick, as I feel it looks more natural and leaves my lips smooth and shiny. Currently, I’m loving the BeautyAddicts LipADDICTION lip glosses for a high-shine look that also feels really nourishing.
So, that’s my daily makeup routine. Some days I skip some of these steps, while other days (mostly special occasions), I’ll opt for more or for bolder colors. Most days, however, I’m all about the natural look that not only brightens my appearance, but also protects my skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
